Job Duties

This policy analyst supports the planning and policy-making decisions of the university through collaboration, analyses, and reporting. Under the direction of the Director of Data Management, Analytics, and Reporting, this analyst will support and enhance the availability of analytical resources for use by the university community. The analyst will collaborate with departments across campus to develop resources that provide all university constituents with metrics needed to evaluate and understand academic and administrative activity and performance. Analyses include interdepartmental research, complex institutional research projects, and standard reports. Scope of responsibility includes all phases of a report from design to data gathering, calculating and analysis of data, and report preparation and distribution.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Conducts and delivers quantitative research focused on identification and analysis of patterns in institutional data
  • Makes critical observations of policy impact of findings and recommends strategies and actions
  • Organizes and conducts research projects while identifying ways to improve research design and data validity
  • Provides analysis and consultation on a variety of administrative-related matters. Applies subject matter knowledge to support institutional decisions and policymaking through research and fact-finding combined with an understanding of applicable business systems
  • Designs, collects, analyzes, and researches institutional data according to established procedures and regulations
  • Prepares and disseminates institutional statistical reports to institutional programs, working units, and leadership
  • Participates in establishing guidelines and procedures to ensure adequacy, quality, and reliability of information sources to ensure information systems and databases manage, store, and retrieve institutional data according to established policies, procedures, and reporting regulations
  • Works on topics that are increasingly complex and on matters that have significant impact to institutional operations
  • This position does not directly supervise any other staff. May be responsible for directing the work of student workers when coordinating department tasks and projects.

Job Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: A bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited institution with three years of experience in research-related work is required. Also required are coursework and/or experience in quantitative research methods;  experience working with Microsoft Office and statistical analysis software; experience with the development of data visualizations; strong project management skills, including teamwork skills; strong written and oral communication skills, as well as creative and critical thinking skills; experience translating/interpreting data and analyses into easy-to-understand explanation; ability to meet deadlines and work under pressure. Must be work-authorized in the United States.  

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:  A master’s degree or other graduate or professional degree; previous experience in an Institutional Research setting; knowledge of higher education ERP systems (i.e. PeopleSoft); experience with basic database programming; ability and willingness to quickly learn new tools and technologies; experience with Tableau or other data visualization software; experience with student life cycle data sets including admissions, student, curricular, degree, as well as HR and financial systems.
