Job Duties

Position Summary: This position leads the Office of Institutional Effectiveness in its mission to provide leadership, guidance and service in the fields of research, assessment, accreditation, planning and data management for the institution's vision. The director develops and maintains programs and procedures for accurate data reporting to campus departments, various organizations, and state and federal agencies; collect, analyze, and interpret institutional data; provides systems for the dissemination of information; and anticipates various data needs of the institution by providing recommendations, information, and/or data for decision-making, planning, resource allocation, and institutional effectiveness. The director reports to the Vice President for Institutional Advancement.

Specific Job Duties:
  • Manage the Office of Institutional Effectiveness, including budget.
  • Provide leadership and support for institutional research activities.
  • Provide guidance and oversight to support data standards and management. This may include participation in the Data Integrity Steering Committee and other collaborative efforts tasked with data maintenance or changes.
  • Prepare and disseminate various institutional, agency, state and federal reports.
  • Collect, analyze and disseminate internal and external data of relevance, using databases and/or data warehouse systems. This data includes, but is not limited to the university's accreditation, budgeting, enrollment management, marketing, assessment and reporting efforts.
  • Conduct ongoing research and studies to evaluate areas such as student demography, enrollment trends, and retention in support of institutional strategic planning.
  • Extract and analyze cross-sectional and longitudinal student, personnel, facility, and financial records used to generate official institutional statistics, dashboards, and longitudinal tracking systems.
  • Support university-wide grant proposal efforts through data collection, analysis and interpretation.

  • Maintain the Office of Institutional Effectiveness webpages and Public Tableau data visualizations.
  • Act as administrator for the institution's Tableau licenses.
  • Disseminate official results to appropriate external agencies and audiences including preparing reports, constructing presentations and/or completing elaborate survey forms, interpreting official institutional statistics for a wide variety of external agencies as well as college administrators, faculty, staff and students.
  • Respond to requests for ad hoc studies, integrating internal, p0eer, and national data to form consistent comparisons.
  • Prepare a variety of internal and external reports, both recurring and new, in a timely manner.
  • Assist with preparation, editing and proofing of other office research documents or reports prior to campus-wide distribution.
  • Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with constituents.
  • Design, prepare, and conduct statistical analyses on a variety of data sets according to information needs and institutional priorities and goals.
  • Design and conduct a variety of surveys of students, staff, members of the community, and others.
  • Prepare data downloads from the institutional ERP system and other data sources using a variety of computer interface tools.
  • Attend and participate in events or forums of various regional and state organizations dealing with research in higher education.
  • Perform other duties as required or assigned.

Job Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in educational research, statistics, psychology, sociology, business, math/science or related field. Terminal degree preferred.
  • Five years of related work experience.
  • The successful candidate will have the ability to communicate and collaborate with diverse constituencies and build working relationships.
  • Demonstrated analytical, statistical and quantitative skills.
  • Ability to organize and manage workflow of simultaneous tasks and projects and meet deadlines.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Experience in higher education research preferred.
  • Experience with Banner ERP system preferred.
  • Experience with Workday ERP system preferred.
  • Experience with Tableau preferred.
  • Experience with IBM SPSS preferred.
  • Experience with data mining and analysis tools and reporting software.
  • Experience with SQL or other programming language.
  • Experience with MS Office or similar platforms.
  • Understanding of database design.
  • Understanding of trends in higher education.

Adams State University is a state-supported regional comprehensive university in Alamosa, Colorado. Alamosa is located approximately 3.5 hours from Denver, 1.5 hours from Taos, New Mexico, and 2.5 hours from Santa Fe, New Mexico. Alamosa has a population of 9,500, with recently built elementary schools, a moderate cost of living, and affordable housing. Adams State University takes a leading role in local theatre performances and musical events and is in an area where opportunities for outdoor recreation abound.
