Job Duties

The American Dental Education Association (ADEA) seeks to add an experienced Director of Institutional Research to its team of high performing professionals. As a key member of the Office of Policy and Education Research (OPER), you will actively support the research programmatic activities of ADEA by executing institutional research activities. These activities include but are not limited to managing and executing the data collection, processing and analysis for ADEA institutional research projects.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Implement the OPER institutional research annual workplan.
  • Be the project manager for institutional research projects and manage all aspects of the project from project timelines, delivery of products, on time and at a high quality level.
  • Working in collaboration with the ADEA Data Visualization Senior Analyst, conduct data collection, processing, validation, analysis, and report writing for institutional research projects and research requests.
  • Manage the approval process of ADEA data collection through the Institutional Review Board (IRB), an ethical review board that ensures that human subjects’ rights are protected while participating in a research study.
  • Develop the data documentation for institutional research projects, in collaboration with the ADEA Senior Director of Data Analytics and the SVP for Policy and Education Research.
  • In collaboration with the ADEA Senior Director of Data Analytics and vendors, work on preparing the ADEA institutional research datasets for the transfer to a future data platform and a supported benchmarking tool for ADEA members.
  • Respond to members’ and ADEA colleagues’ requests as they relate to institutional research.
  • Collaborate with OPER colleagues on automating data collection and processing, creating algorithms to make the analysis process more efficient and research findings more suited to their audiences.
  • Work with colleagues across ADEA on tasks and projects, as necessary.
  • Follow data privacy policies and comply with data protection regulations.
  • Other duties as assigned.

 Desired First-Year Outcomes

  • Launch the redesigned U.S. Dental School Faculty Demographics and Salary Data Collection on scheduled date.
  • Prepare at least 50% of OPER datasets for the transfer of data into the new data platform.
  • Achieve a higher response rate for the U.S. Dental School Senior Survey 2022 than in 2021 (44%).

Job Qualifications

Requirements

  • A master’s degree and eight years of institutional research experience; or a Ph.D. degree and six years of relevant experience. Dental education/medical education institutional research preferred.
  • Expert in survey design, methodology and strategies to increase survey response rates, experience with other data collection methods and data processing.
  • Advanced Qualtrics skills, including extensive logic implementation through embedded fields and survey flow, implementation of quota requirements, display and skip logic as well as loop and merge, setting up email and contact list triggers, and JavaScript expertise in creating advanced question customization.
  • SPSS, Python, and SQL proficiency.
  • Working knowledge of statistics and ETL techniques.
  • Experience developing reports or articles based on storytelling with data for different audiences.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines, with demonstrated project management skills. Strong project management and planning skills are essential.
  • Desire to contribute on a daily basis within a highly collaborative project team environment that is deadline driven.
  • Ability to exchange ideas, facts and technical information clearly and concisely with others.
  • Attention to detail and meticulous focus on sensitive and time sensitive materials and activities.
  • Working knowledge of machine learning is preferable, but not required.
  • Ability to work effectively in a diverse team environment and the ability to collaborate well with others from different backgrounds.
  • Ability to work at ADEA’s DC office as needed.
  • Position may involve providing support at ADEA meetings, including occasional travel on weekend days.
