The College of Education and Human Sciences at the University of Southern Mississippi is seeking to fill the position of Director of the Office of Research Support Services, beginning January 15, 2021. The Director of The Office of Research Support Services will work to streamline pre- and post-award processes in the college to advance external funding in the college. As the college broadens grant support services, the Director will supervise full- and part-time grant support staff and graduate assistants. The position will develop and implement internal research support processes, tracking mechanisms, standard operating procedures, and other processes needed for proposal development and grant management.


Primary Job Duties and Responsibilities:

The Director of the Office of Research Support Services in the College of Education and Human Sciences will develop and implement office procedures, supervise office staff, and manage external projects.

Specifically, the Director of the Office of Research Support Services will:

  1. Provide supervision and management of the Office of Research Support Services in the College of Education and Human Sciences, including supervision of full and part-time staff.
  2. Create and implement a proposal management process for the college.
  3. Generate an annual report of CEHS funding productivity for internal and external stakeholders.
  4. Maintain accurate data for support services sought and delivered by the office.
  5. Represent the college as a liaison to external funding agencies.
  6. Provide training to faculty on CEHS proposal processes.
  7. Supervise pre- and post-award services for faculty within the College of Education and Human Sciences for externally funded research and sponsored projects. 
  8. Ensure the office staff maintain up-to-date knowledge of USM policies and procedures as well as sponsor, state, and federal regulations governing submission of proposals for external funding.
  9. Provide workshops to faculty and guest lectures to students on topics related to grant proposal development.
  10. Track and manage timelines and deadlines to achieve timely proposal submissions including coordination between research team members so the proposal is submitted on schedule via internal and external portals.
  11. Review forms, budgets and justifications for proposals and awards prior to submission.
  12. Monitor agency announcements related to upcoming RFAs, LOIs and other funding opportunities to notify faculty of opportunities in a timely manner.
  13. Performs other duties as assigned.


Job Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

Master’s degree from an accredited college or university and at least 3 years of prior experience with grant support services in an academic setting or granting agency.

Preferred Qualifications: 

Experience in a supervisory role
Five or more years of grant writing and related support experiences
Experience in academia as a research administrator working directly with PIs
