Job Description:  

The Data Manager will support Modern Classrooms’ internal and external-facing research efforts by managing internal databases and measuring change over time, conducting literature reviews and market research, conducting quantitative and qualitative data analyses, and communicating research findings through compelling visual formats (reports, presentation slides, handouts, and web content). We’re looking for an experienced researcher who is passionate about using data to discover new insights and inform continuous improvement efforts. 

The Data Manager will report directly to the Director of Research & Continuous Improvement, and will: 

  • Manage internal databases to ensure data accuracy and measure change over time.
  • Conduct regular reviews of academic literature and market research to inform program improvements, communication materials, and future research projects.
  • Update existing materials to reflect new research findings. Materials may include reports, presentation slides, handouts, or web content.
  • Create compelling visuals to communicate research findings (charts, tables, infographics).
  • Identify trends in quantitative data (counts, frequencies).
  • Review qualitative data to identify themes in responses.
  • Support the creation of surveys from start to finish, including survey item development, survey creation via Paperform, survey distribution and data collection, and data analysis.
  • Support the Director of Research in identifying and communicating key insights from internal databases to teammates (Partnerships, Program, Marketing) to inform continuous improvement and outreach efforts.
  • Build data dashboards using Google Sheets.
  • Respond to staff requests related to data and research. These may include identifying frequencies and trends in stored data, providing actionable insights, creating a visual, or conducting a literature review.
  • Support occasional special projects (grant proposals, program impact studies, interviews/focus groups).

Job Qualifications

Who we are looking for:

  • Research experience that includes data input, management, and identifying trends in both qualitative and quantitative data, preferably in a high-growth environment.
  • Experience using Google Sheets to manage data and build dashboards.
  • Expertise in coding and theming qualitative data. Experience with qualitative coding software (e.g., NVivo, Dedoose) is strongly preferred.
  • Ability to explain/illustrate data in a clear and compelling way.
  • Highly organized and capable of managing multiple tasks at once.
  • Self-starter who can work independently and think on their feet.
  • Passion for solving challenging problems.
  • A structured and organized thinker who can develop and refine scalable systems.
  • Passionate about making the world a better place, particularly through education.
  • Preferred, not Required: Expertise in analyzing quantitative data with Excel or other statistical-analysis software (R, Stata, SPSS, etc.).
