Data Visualization and Reporting Specialist

Job Duties

  • Design, create, validate and maintain traditional reports, interactive data visualizations, and dashboards
  • Write and maintain documentation on the use and maintenance of visualizations
  • Support the preparation of high quality reports and presentations for campus leaders including the President and Vice Presidents
  • Apply the best design practices relating to composition, color, space and perspective as appropriate to the given data set and anticipated audience
  • Maintain the IRA website meeting the highest possible standards of accessibility
  • Identify and master the most appropriate technical tools for data visualization tasks (Tableau, Google Data Studio, R, Power BI, etc.)
  • Apply best practices in data disaggregation to highlight equity gaps when appropriate
  • Work effectively and proactively both independently and as part of a team
  • Complete projects in a timely manner with a high degree of accuracy

Job Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university at time of appointment
  • Documented skills visualizing quantitative data demonstrated in a portfolio containing at least two different examples along with written materials explaining what they show
  • Effective oral and written communication skills
  • Commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's degree from an accredited college or university
  • Bachelors or master degree in a field of computer and information science, social science, art and design or similarly appropriate to the work described
  • Prior work experience in college administration (including internships, assistantships, work study and part-time student employment)
  • Demonstrated understanding of current issues impacting public higher education in the U.S.
  • Proficiency with the MS Office Suite
  • Experience with Tableau, Power BI, Adobe Illustrator, Google Data Studio or other similar software and the aptitude to develop mastery in visualization tools
  • Knowledge of best practices in data privacy and information security
  • Demonstrated ability to identify findings and draw conclusions from data analysis relating to policy or practice
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently with minimal supervision as well as collaboratively in a team
  • Ability to serve as a campus resource instructing others in best practices in visual design
