Job Duties

The Associate Dean of Admissions is part of the senior management team in the Admissions office and is charged with overseeing and leading one or more broad work areas of the office and the associated programs that support the recruitment, selection, and enrollment of entering classes at Pomona College. The individual in this position is the primary person responsible for research, analytical services and data analysis that support evidence-based decision making, strategic planning and management of statistical and historical student admissions data. In conjunction with other data leads within the College, the Associate Dean sets work priorities and standards for the use and distribution of data between the Office of Admissions and other divisions at the College. 

Performs the following essential duties and responsibilities:

Provides leadership, strategy, and delivery of most of the office’s shared data services; promotes a focus on continuously improving data management processes; designs and tests data integrity processes; systematically builds data capacity; and actively promotes data literacy to support the effective delivery of actionable solutions within the admissions office.

Provides clear direction and oversight of assigned Office activities, including research, high-level data management and communication of enrollment data. Responsible for training, monitoring, coaching and evaluating staff members in order to ensure a high performing admissions team.
Provides vision and guidance to all staff regarding modern data management practices and engagement with various technologies that support the work of a high-performing admissions office, such as:
  • Collaborates with an Associate Dean of Admissions to develop assessments to measure and monitor the efficacy of the admissions selection rubric
  • Creates forecast and projection models for prospect conversion and accepted student yield
  • Collaborates with a Senior Associate Dean of Admissions to develop assessments to measure and monitor the effectiveness of various outreach initiatives.
  • Develops assessment protocols to report on outcomes of new strategies and policies within the division
  • Serves as a resource to staff in the division to help assess their program responsibilities
Manages data collection and storage and serves as a secondary leader for the Slate CRM, including, but not limited to the coordination of:
  • ASQ+ and off-year short surveys to admitted students
  • Visit surveys
  • Search
  • Slate Reports
Manages relationships with third-party vendors that provide data critical to the work of the Admissions Office.
Liaison with campus offices on data projects:
  • Admission
  • Financial Aid
  • Institutional Research
Perform recruiting and admission functions for a designated national territory, including high school visits, correspondence, reading admission materials and rendering an admission decision, attending admission meetings, and following up with admitted students. Serves as a representative on the faculty admissions and financial aid committee.

Represents the Office of Admissions with various constituents within Pomona College.

Job Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree is required, or equivalent combination of education and experience.  Master’s degree in a quantitative field is preferred.  A valid driver’s license is required or equivalent means of reliable transportation to off-site meetings and events.  A minimum of 7 years of experience working in a data-oriented field, selective college admissions, or higher education is preferred.
