Job Duties

The BI/Data Analyst-II's primary responsibility is to provide statistical analysis, data visualization, and metrics about Appalachian State University facilities, courses, and students. The position partners closely with colleagues within and outside of IRAP to develop actionable analytical research focused on institutional space analysis, classroom utilization, student success, and other institutional analytic projects that inform and support university planning and initiatives.

The position will provide extensive data visualizations of university use of classroom utilization and conduct analysis in support of course data issues, assure and assess quality control and data integrity, and help to design, develop, and implement university-wide tools to support Appalachian’s space management and other institutional goals. In addition to analysis, the position will be the primary contact for the administration of 25Live software to enable the university to plan and use space resources efficiently.

The position is an integral part of the IRAP analytics group and is responsible for providing analysis, data visualization of inventories and metrics with a focus on space and course data to aid in institutional space and course planning. The position requires extensive development of Tableau dashboards, working with institutional space management software, and conducting analysis using relevant data.

Job Qualifications

Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in social sciences, data science, statistics, mathematics, computer science, or a related field
  • Experience with statistical packages and data visualization software
  • Demonstrated data analysis and management experience using software such as SQL, SAS, SPSS, Python, Tableau Prep, etc.
  • Experience working with relational databases
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills

Preferred qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in social sciences, data science, statistics, mathematics, or a related field
  • Demonstrated experience developing Tableau dashboards
  • Higher education experience in institutional research, analytics, planning, or related area
