Job Duties


Organize/perform key research projects in response to institutional needs.  Serve as resource & use expertise to make recommendations to Exec. Dir. to execute projects/requests. 

Maintain databases to store/retrieve info. for reporting purposes, e.g., mandatory compliance reporting; government reporting requirements, such as IPEDS; & benchmarking. Provide accurate & timely data/statistics to internal & external audiences and meaningful analysis to present data/insights in accessible/digestible format.

Expand/maintain Tableau data site & all internal dashboards. Serve as resource for stakeholders to better utilize dashboards. 

Create reports/visualizations/dashboards/metrics that provide insights & aid decision-making. Use querying languages, scripting languages, & other tools to produce reports & perform meaningful quantitative/qualitative analyses. Design/conduct analytical research & evaluation studies, including preparing interpretive analyses & presenting findings in narrative & graphic forms. Disaggregate results for continuous improvement, both periodically & as requested.

With an in-depth understanding of available surveys & RISD’s strategic planning, provide expertise in recommending appropriate surveys. Plan & organize completion of surveys & proactively engage academic & admin. departments to ensure the appropriate design/administration/analysis of national & institutional surveys.  Utilize centralized survey dashboard to disseminate summaries/custom analyses/reports.  Review survey results to highlight key trends to inform decision-making.

Identify & meet data needs, as directed by the Exec. Dir. & in areas identified by the Provost.

Respond to ad hoc requests from institutional offices, departments, & committees in a timely manner & by providing consultation & expertise.

Disseminate key information to the RISD community through written & oral methods as well as the RISD website.


With advanced knowledge of data integrity, contribute to ongoing data governance process by conferring with offices across RISD to create & ensure data standards & accuracy & to document data definitions & users. Continually evaluate & refine RISD data definitions, in order to meet institutional & regulatory requirements.

Investigate/plan/implement short-/long-term BI & reporting system solutions, in close collab. with IT, to support identified strategic plans that meet the needs for data, data processing, data analysis, & tracking & documenting KPIs.

Actively engage the Dir. of Academic Budgets & Resources to identify & implement solutions to meet dynamic analytical needs for institutional academic resource allocation & budgeting.

Provide a comprehensive view of enrollment data & student analytics at RISD based on feedback form & engagement with Student Enrollment. 


Conduct institutional research, policy analysis & outcome assessment to support institutional planning & accreditation efforts.

Prepare analyses/reports/visual displays/dashboards & provide benchmarking to inform institution leadership & assess progress towards institutional goals, both periodically & as requested.

Provide data & analytic support for the institution & specific departments, in compliance with accreditation & program review requirements at the institution & discipline level.


Research & continue to expand expertise on software products, best practices in IR, & significant trends in higher education, as assigned.

Completes additional related duties as required.

Job Qualifications


  • Bachelor’s degree with a minimum of three years of experience in an institutional research or data analytics role, or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Extensive utilization of querying tools, MS office, and quantitative analytical tools, such as SPSS, SAS, or R required
  • Experience in and advanced knowledge in applying research methodology, statistical analysis, trending, interpretation of data and findings, familiarity with data collection and preparation, processing, classification, forecasting/predictive modeling/simulation, and longitudinal analysis required.
  • Experience with survey design, development, implementation and reporting; demonstrated experience in the use of statistics and relevant applications, research methodologies, and knowledge of sound survey research practices required
  • Advanced spreadsheet proficiency especially with functions, calculations, pivot tables, and data features required
  • Ability to build effective working relationships throughout the college.
  • Competency in social equity and inclusion, and the ability to thrive in a diverse and inclusive environment is required.
  • Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience working in higher education and strong knowledge of institutional research and effectiveness measures
  • Experience using Workday in a higher education environment
  • Experience with effective graphical information display and dashboard systems design and standards, such as Tableau, and Workday Prism
