Position Summary: The Data Warehouse Extract/Transform/Load (ETL) developer will design and implement data structures and ETL processes. The developer will build ETL pipelines to ingest the data from heterogeneous sources into the data warehouse. The position requires excellent business and communication skills, and working with business
owners to understand data requirements and make data-related decisions.
The position will require the individual to learn new tools and technologies fast, requires an in-depth database knowledge as well as basic programming and scripting skills. The developer will build efficient and stable data pipelines which can be easily maintained in the future. The individual should have expertise in the design, creation, management, and business use of large relational datasets.

General Purpose: Support of the University Data warehouse

Remote Work Days- This a full time position with up to 5 remote workdays per week. Remote work available in the following States: Arizona, California, Colorado, Florida, Indiana, Missouri, New York, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia, Vermont, Wisconsin.

Position Responsibilities: 

  • Design, automate, schedule and load jobs necessary to extract core data from multiple data sources and environments into a local data warehouse.
  • Assist with creating warehouse designs/structure that enable easy, natural end-user access with selected business intelligence platform(s).
  • Provide recommendations in the selection of DBMS, ETL and associated tools appropriate for current and future needs of the decision support system.
  • Gather requirements and business process knowledge in order to transform the data in a way that’s geared towards the needs of end users
  • Maintain and improve already existing processes
  • Ensure that the data architecture is scalable and maintainable
  • Work with the University in designing and delivering correct, high quality data
  • Investigate data to identify potential issues within ETL pipelines, notify end-users and propose adequate solutions
  • Ensure efficient processing on an ongoing basis including data consistency of data attributes, naming conventions and element value types.
  • Report data to various internal and external audiences such as ad hoc reporting, mandated reporting, and reporting for leadership decision making.
  • Create and maintain documentation on data warehouse for end users.
  • Create and maintain technical documentation on ETL processes.

Job Qualifications

Essential Skills: 

  • SQL knowledge (query performance tuning, index maintenance, etc.) as well as an understanding of database structure
  • Knowledge of data modeling principles
  • Organizational skills: time management and planning
  • Knowledge of at least one ETL tool (SSIS, Informatica, Talend, etc.)
  • High attention to detail
  • Passionate about complex data structures and problem solving
  • Ability to pick up new data tools and concepts quickly
  • Must be comfortable operating in a collaborative, shared leadership environment.

Minimal Qualifications: Bachelor’s Degree and two (2) years of experience in ETL processes OR Associates Degree and four (4) years of experience in ETL processes.

Preferred Qualifications: Experience with PeopleSoft applications and data. Experience in Higher Education.
