Job Duties

The mission of the Office of Institutional Research & Effectiveness (IR&E) is to deliver accurate, timely, and insightful information to Bellarmine University faculty, staff, and administrators in support of strategic planning, assessment, accreditation, and compliance with required external reporting. 

The Office of IR&E has an immediate opening for an Institutional Research Analyst, who will use database and reporting technologies in support of these objectives. Additionally, the IR analyst conducts iterative and ad hoc research related to student learning outcomes, curriculum and program evaluation, survey collections, and matters of institutional effectiveness.

The IR Analyst will perform duties including, but not limited to:

Data Extraction and Reports:

  • Write queries using SQL to extract and format data
  • Use report writing software (currently SAP Business Objects) to create operational reports for multiple audiences and constituencies
  • Collaborate to improve information management, data governance, and quality assurance
  • Respond to internal and external requests with accurate and timely data

Data Visualization and Analytical Products:

  • Assist in the development of dashboards and visualizations using Tableau
  • Compile data from external sources to develop market scans, labor demand insights, and other strategic advantages for the university
  • In addition to standard operational reports, develop advanced or customized analyses based on emergent trends or needs

Data Collection/Generation and Analysis:

  • Instrument and survey design
  • Collaborate with campus partners to select/refine instruments to best address larger research questions
  • Implement and manage survey administration
  • Report findings with custom analyses/foci to relevant stakeholders

Stakeholder Collaboration and Consultation:

  • Business process and needs analysis
  • Represent the Office of Institutional Research on committees and task forces as needed
  • Interpret and communicate analytical findings with various campus constituencies

Job Qualifications

  • A completed master's degree in educational research or another applied social science field with a strong research component, plus one to two years relevant professional experience (or a bachelor's degree in a related field and three to four years of relevant professional experience)
  • Basic to intermediate skills using SQL to construct queries, investigate relational database models, and create custom datasets for reporting and analyses
  • Experience with Tableau, BI, or other similar data visualization software
  • Experience with Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook, and other workplace productivity applications
  • Ability to use extreme discretion when working with highly confidential information
  • Uncommon attention to accuracy and detail
  • Strong interpersonal, collaborative, and critical thinking skills
  • Ability to prioritize work while remaining proactive and adaptable to changing needs

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with SAP Business Objects or similar business intelligence/reporting software
  • Experience with eXplorance Blue, Qualtrics, or similar survey/evaluation software
  • Experience with Ellucian Colleague or similar enterprise-level student information systems
  • Understanding of research design, as well as quantitative and/or qualitative methods in educational or other applied social science research
  • Internship or previous employment in higher education administration
  • Exemplary writing and oral communication skills
Work Environment:  This role has the potential to be performed on-site, remotely, or as a hybrid of in-person/remote work.  Candidates wishing to be considered for hybrid or fully remote work must have minimal technology requirements including a high-speed, secure home internet connection.  Fully remote workers may be required to travel occasionally.
