Associate Vice Chancellor for Enrollment Management

Job Duties

  • Provides leadership in the development of the vision, annual and long-range goals and objectives for the division of Enrollment Management (EM) and its departments and staff.
  •  Formulates and implements creative and innovative solutions to emerging EM challenges and opportunities.
  • Provides strategic direction and leadership for the development and implementation of recruitment, enrollment, retention, and financial aid strategies to ensure robust enrollments in UMD’s undergraduate and graduate programs.
  •  Provides leadership, advocacy, and oversight for the Office of Admissions, the Bulldog Resource Center, Enrollment Management Marketing & Communications, the Office of Financial Aid & Scholarships, and the Office of the Registrar and serves as the direct supervisor to the directors of these departments.
  •  Directs the UMD Office of Institutional Research (OIR) and sets direction for the institutional research function to enhance institutional reporting, strategic planning initiatives, policy formulation, administrative decision-making, marketing and accreditation.
  • Serves as the senior hiring authority within EM and OIR, ensuring adequate onboarding, training, performance management/evaluation, coaching, promotion, award, and disciplinary actions.
  • Works collaboratively with other areas at UMD that directly affect recruiting and retention success inside and outside the EVCAA (Executive Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs) areas.
  • Cultivates a culture of diversity, equity, and inclusion across all functions of EM.
  • Demonstrates and cultivates data-driven enrollment operations that result in sustained overall enrollment, academic quality, and diversity of student populations.
  • Leads ongoing development, implementation, and updates to the UMD Strategic Enrollment Management Plan in alignment with the UMD Strategic Plan.
  • Articulates and directs overall tactics and strategies necessary to fulfill institutional enrollment and student success goals, including communicating the UMD Strategic Enrollment Management Plan to stakeholders.
  • Prepares short- and long-range enrollment and retention goals as part of the overall strategic planning process; monitors outcomes and analyzes progress to goals.
  • Works collaboratively with campus leadership, academic deans, and program directors to implement enrollment strategies across the chancellor and three vice chancellor units and the four collegiate units.
  • Provides oversight to undergraduate recruitment and retention marketing and communications, including collaborating with UMD’s Chief Marketing and Public Relations Officer and systemwide enrollment management/marketing to strengthen campus and system recruitment marketing activities.
  • Provides advocacy and support for programs and services that foster retention and student success.
  • Reviews and evaluates policies, processes, and procedures to ensure efficient, effective, and unbiased access to the University of Minnesota Duluth.
  • Practices and fosters the use of data-informed decision making and creates and distributes appropriate reports, dashboards, and data summaries that inform decision- making.
  • Provides oversight of $100 million in annual student aid, fosters optimization of institutional aid resources, and recommends strategic tuition pricing strategies.
  • Collaborates with UMN System partners to efficiently deliver university enrollment services and to advocate for UMD needs and priorities.
  • Supports the use of technologies across all functions of EM.
  • Fosters relationships with reporting units based on trust, mutual respect, and accountability.

Job Qualifications

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Master’s degree from a regionally accredited institution
  • A minimum five years of progressive administrative experience at or above the level of department head or director of a major campus / university unit
  • Previous supervisory experience managing a team of professional staff

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Direct supervisory experience in student services or strategic enrollment management, preferably in a regional comprehensive university campus
  • Doctoral degree from a regionally accredited institution
  • A record of providing creative, consultative leadership on complex academic issues
  • Experience contributing to the formulation and implementation of strategic plans in the area of enrollment and institutional effectiveness
  • Demonstrated ability to use technology and interpret data related to enrollment and institutional effectiveness and to present this to decision making groups
  • Demonstrated ability to interpret and apply administrative policies and procedures
  • Demonstrated record of actions and accomplishments related to diversity, equity, and inclusion
  • Demonstrated ability to think both long-range and strategically, bring vision and creativity, and inspire others to active engagement in a common enterprise
  • Demonstrated understanding of enrollment management strategies including best practices in student recruitment, financial aid leveraging, and college student development
  •  Excellent communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills

Institution Description
