Job Duties
Lead, maintain, and improve institutional research and assessment programs that focus on student learning outcomes, institutional improvement, and strategic enrollment management; collaborate with others in the design, analysis and reporting of data and research; leading data governance initiatives; provide data for federal reporting and compliance; provide data to support institutional and program accreditation and institutional program reviews; provide training to campus units on institutional research methods and assessment; and assist institutional leaders, faculty, and staff in using data to support decision making aligned with the University’s mission, priorities, and associated initiatives. The Assistant Vice President and OIRA serve the data needs of administration, faculty, and staff across South Dakota State University, including the University President, Vice Presidents, Academic Affairs, Student Affairs, and Research.
Job Qualifications
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Master’s degree;
- Minimum of five years of successful experience, including supervisory experience, in higher education assessment and/or institutional research;
- Must be authorized to work in the U.S. Sponsorship is not available for this position;
- Experience developing, calibrating, and implementing rubrics, program review processes, and best practices in outcomes assessment;
- Excellent oral and written communication skills;
- Proficiency with data management, qualitative and quantitative research design, survey design, statistical analysis and software packages, and database programs;
- Familiarity with higher education software systems;
- Awareness of current trends in higher education assessment and data-driven decision-making;
- Familiarity with the policies and practices of regional accrediting organizations (e.g., Higher Learning Commission, HLC) and federal reporting requirements (e.g., IPEDS);
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail;
- Appreciation for accuracy of data and reporting, data security, data governance, and institutional integrity; and
- Ability to use institutional data to meet federal reporting requirements and to support institutional and program improvement.

SALARY RANGE:
The base salary for the Assistant Vice President of Institutional Research and Assessment will be commensurate with qualifications. We offer a generous retirement plan that includes 6% matching, 10 hours of annual leave each month, 9.34 hours of sick leave each month, and eleven paid holidays. Relocation benefits are available per university’s guidelines.
