David Damari is now Dean of the Michigan College of Optometry at Ferris State University.
Maren Hess is now Director of Assessment, Institutional Effectiveness, and Compliance at Mansfield University of Pennsylvania. She previously served as Director of Institutional Research and Assessment at Saint Vincent College.
Nicholas Hillman is now Assistant Professor at the University of Wisconsin, Department of Educational Leadership and Policy Analysis. He was previously Assistant Professor at the University of Utah.
Paul Merner has retired as Director of Educational Research and Development from Camosun College in British Columbia.
Richard Reeves has accepted the position of IPEDS Program Director with NCES. Richard has long been a part of the IR community, working at Johns Hopkins and Cornell in institutional research and enrollment management. Richard was previously the National Student Clearinghouse’s first Director of Research and worked closely with institutions in that role. For a little over two years, he has been at the U.S. Energy Information Administration in the Department of Energy managing data collection and data sharing agreements. The IPEDS team is excited about what Richard’s combination of government, higher education research, and institutional experience can bring to NCES and the IPEDS team.

Cliff Adelman has published a first novel, The Russian Embassy Party. The story follows its characters along the edges of history from the summer of 1963 in Washington to the 1993 chaos of Yeltsin’s Russia. Larry G. Jones passed away on April 2, 2013. Larry served on the AIR Board of Directors, worked on several AIR committees, and received the AIR Distinguished Member Award in 2001. He was a Past President of SAIR and received two awards for his service from SAIR. He was most recently a senior public service associate in the Institute of Higher Education at the University of Georgia. At the time of his death, he was living in Boston with his wife, Ann. Sam Agronow passed away in November. Sam worked in IR at several institutions in California and served as President of the California Association for Institutional Research. He most recently was IR Director at St. Mary's College in Moraga, Calif. He will be sorely missed by his friends and colleagues.
Brad Cox, Assistant Professor of Higher Education, Florida State University, has been selected as an American College Personnel Association (ACPA) Emerging Scholar. Chuck DeHart retired as Assistant IR Director from James Madison University last fall. Chuck has been busy building his dream guitar, but would be open to the prospect of a professional project in 2013.
Jason Hartz is now Director of Institutional Research at Bethany College in West Virginia.
Cel Johnson is retiring on December 31 as Executive Director of Institutional Research and Planning from the University of San Diego after many years in the profession. She is passing the office baton to Paula Krist, currently Assistant Dean for Assessment Support in the School of Leadership and Education Sciences at USD.
John Kalb is retiring at the end of December from Southern Methodist University in Texas, where he is Director of Institutional Research. John has been an active AIR member for 25 years.
Gary Kappel is returning to the classroom full time as Professor at Bethany College in West Virginia. After serving as a faculty member in History for many years, he served in a variety of administrative appointments at the college, most recently as Director of Institutional Effectiveness and Associate Vice President for Academic Affairs.
George Kuh, Chancellor's Professor Emeritus and Director, Indiana University-Bloomington, has been awarded the Robert Zemsky Medal for Innovation in Higher Education by the Executive Doctorate Alumni Advisory Board, of the University of Pennsylvania Graduate School of Education. A ceremony and gala dinner will be held in his honor in January, 2013.
Sandra L. Kinney is now Assistant Vice President for Institutional Research and Planning at Louisiana Community & Technical College System in Baton Rouge.

Roy "Ike" Ikenberry has retired from Belmont University after nearly 12 years as Director of Institutional Research. Mary Lucus, formerly of Vanderbilt University, has replaced Ike in this capacity. Ike will finish serving his term as Past President of SAIR in September.
William Innes retired on June 15 as Research Analyst at The University of Montana. His parting thought was, “Patience, your day will come.”
Fay S. Parham retired on June 30 as Executive Director of Institutional Effectiveness, Planning, and Research, from Middle Tennessee State University.

George Subotzky passed away July 3. George was a leading figure in IR in South Africa and a valued member of SAAIR. Most recently, he was Executive Director for Information and Strategic Analysis at the University of South Africa.

Ian Calvert will retire as Assistant Vice-President from Carleton University at the end of June, 2012.
Peter J. Gray will retire as Director of Academic Assessment from the United States Naval Academy at the end of June, 2012.
Patricia Harvey, Director of Institutional Effectiveness at Richard Bland College, in Petersburg VA, will retire effective June 30, 2012 to pursue her love of teaching remedial college mathematics and business. Tyler Hart, formerly Director of Financial Aid at the college, will replace her.
Carl Larsen has accepted a position as Assistant to the President for Institutional Planning and Effectiveness, effective July 2, 2012, at Tusculum College in Tennessee. Previously, he was Assistant Dean for Policy and Planning, Penn State Altoona.
William Sayre is now the Director of Institutional Research at the Institute of American Indian Arts in Santa Fe, New Mexico.
Rose Mary Saliba will retire as Director of Institutional Research and Effectiveness from Central Ohio Technical College, effective June 30, 2012.
Daniel Teodorescu, Director of Institutional Research at Emory University, has accepted an offer from Institute of Higher Education (IHE) faculty to become an Institute Fellow. He also serves as adjunct professor at Pennsylvania State University in the Department of Educational Policy Studies.
Thank you and farewell to Shuguang Wei, visiting Chinese scholar to the AIR Executive Office. After attending the Forum, he embarked on a 50-hour trip home to Wuhan, China.

William Blanchard is now Principal of Blanchard Consulting Services, LLC. Formerly, he was Director of Institutional Research and Assessment Services at the University of Wisconsin-Parkside from 2001 to 2011.
Qin Liu is now a Ph.D. student at the Ontario Institute for Studies in Education, University of Toronto. She was previously a Research Analyst at the British Columbia Institute of Technology.
Phyllis Mable passed away May 9, 2012, in Washington, D.C. According to friends and colleagues, Phyllis was a higher education pioneer and a legend in the student affairs profession. She was Vice President of Student Affairs at Longwood University in Virginia for nearly 20 years before her 2001 retirement.
Kurian Tharakunnel is now a Policy and Planning Analyst at University of Wisconsin-Parkside.
Kim Van Vleet received his IR Certificate from Florida State University, and is now Director of Institutional Research at Saint Martin’s University in Lacey, Wash.

Donna Smith retired on March 30, 2012. She was employed in Florida State University’s IR office for 25 years, and is a past President of FAIR (1997-1998). Donna shared that “it has been a very interesting and rewarding career.”
Dr. Walter Alvah Samuel (W.A.S.) Smith passed away February 8, 2012. He was formerly President Emeritus at the University of Lethbridge in Canada and was an active member of AIR.
