Led by instructors selected for their practical knowledge and experience in the field, each five-day institute includes instruction on topics central to the success of AIR members.
Currently there are four institutes, all under the direction of AIR’s Professional Development Services Committee. The series includes:
Foundations I Institute: The Practice of Institutional Research
Foundations I is for early career professionals and provides a broad overview of the work of institutional researchers in postsecondary education. This institute is often selected as the first professional training for new IR staff and directors. No prior experience is needed to benefit from this Institute.

Foundations II Institute: The Advanced Practice of Institutional Research
Foundations II is for established IR professionals who have a solid foundation in the field and are ready to advance their career as a senior leader/administrator in an IR position.

Assessment Institute for Institutional Research Practitioners
This Institute is for IR and assessment officers who lead assessment efforts on their campus. Participants learn practical skills and strategies in assessment that are immediately applicable to their home campus.

Applied Statistics Institute for Institutional Research, Planning, and Management
IR professionals, faculty, and graduate students attend the Applied Statistics Institute to broaden and sharpen their knowledge of statistics. The focus is on the application of statistical techniques in postsecondary education IR, planning, and management.
