White House College Scorecard
How Will it Affect IR?

The Obama administration is proposing a new addition to the College Affordability and Transparency Center: The White House College Scorecard. According to the Scorecard website, the goal of the instrument is to make it easier for potential students and their families "to identify and choose high quality, affordable colleges that provide good value" based on five dimensions of data: costs, graduation rates, student loan repayment, student loan debt, and earnings potential. What impact could the Scorecard have on IR and your campus or organization? Readers are invited to learn more and weigh in. MORE

Are AIR Members Following the Issue?

To help determine awareness of the proposed Scorecard, AIR recently conducted a member survey. Results showed that although 40 percent of respondents had not heard of the Scorecard, 20 percent had initiated conversations about it within their institution or organization. See MORE about the survey and how the data compares to your experiences.

Forum is Still Forum, Covering our Assets

By Jennifer Brown
2011-12 AIR President

The 2012 AIR Forum (June 2-6) is just a few months away. While the primary hotel is already sold out, there is another fine hotel across the street for your convenience and comfort. I am looking forward to a great Forum in a great city, and I hope you are planning to be there.

One thing you might have noticed on the home page of the AIR website is the addition of the words "annual conference" in reference to Forum. This is to help new members or other interested visitors find the event more easily. MORE

Tuition Revenues and Enrollment Demand: The Case of Southern Utah University

This paper details a successful increase in tuition revenues at Southern Utah University. This accomplishment was based on three key factors: (a) a key administrator who advocated economic modeling and a positive basis for tuition policy; (b) empirical evidence of the effects of the proposed tuition increase by estimating an enrollment demand model; and (c) stakeholder buy-in. Following the largest tuition increase in over 30 years, enrollment growth remains strong and revenues have increased. MORE
