Institution descriptionThe Data and Analytics Division of the University of North Carolina (UNC) General Administration is responsible for the data collection, verification, and reporting requirements for the UNC system, providing decision support to General Administration leadership, the Board of Governors, the 17 constituent institutions, and other key stakeholders. The Division must meet cyclical state and federal reporting requirements, maintain various public-facing and internal-facing information resources (e.g., dashboards, information briefs, statistical abstracts), and respond to ad hoc requests for information that require work in a dynamic environment with constantly changing priorities.
Job dutiesUNC General Administration (UNC-GA UNC System Office) located in Chapel Hill, NC invites applications for the position of IT Professional – with working title of SAS programmer/analyst. Position provides data management, analysis, and visualization to support information needs of UNC General Administration, the Board of Governors, and other stakeholders.

The SAS programmer/analyst will work across UNC General Administration and with all 17 constituent institutions to validate, analyze, and report institutional data. Key qualities for the ideal candidate are SAS expertise and efficiency, experience managing large and complex data sets, analytical skills, a commitment to accuracy, ability to work as part of a team, and ability to communicate with wide variety of data consumers.
QualificationsBachelor’s degree in Computer Science, or other programming-heavy degree from an appropriately accredited institution and two years of experience is required; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Management strongly prefers a minimum of three (3) years of writing original SAS code in a professional setting. Helpful skills include debugging and troubleshooting code, updating legacy code, proficiency with Base SAS. Data Step programming, merging large and complex data sets using Data Merge, and use of specific routines in SAS such as Proc SQL, ODS, Proc Report/Tabulate, Macro Programming, and Array Processing. Experience with SAS Visual Analytics and SAS Enterprise Guide are valuable as well, Additional useful experience includes work in higher education institutional research, enrollment management, planning or analysis, particularly within the UNC System.
