Institution descriptionThe Senior Research Analyst is directly responsible for the university’s institutional research activities, the implementation of the university’s student learning assessment plan, and the relevant budgetary analyses.
Formulate and apply mathematical modeling and statistical methods to develop and interpret information that assists management with decision-making, policy formulation, or other managerial functions. Apply mathematical or statistical theory and methods to collect, organize, interpret, and summarize data. Plan, develop, or conduct surveys. Analyze and interpret the meaning of survey data, determine survey objectives, and suggest or test question wording.
Job dutiesCoordinate the university’s institutional research activities. Develop, implement and maintain assessment measures and reporting tools that directly support the university’s budgetary processes, such as: the Income Cost Model, the Delaware Study of Instructional Costs and Productivity, and undergraduate and graduate tuition discounting reports. Create, implement, and maintain a system of university dashboards that comprehend data central to university planning, budgeting, and policy initiatives. Directly responsible for the creation, completion, and development of ongoing university initiatives such as: The Instructional Workload Report, the Statistical Profiles, Undergraduate and Graduate Tuition Discounting Reports, Undergraduate and Graduate Enrollment Modeling. Complete and submit mandated reports from the National Center for Education Statistics (NCES), the Middle States Commission on Higher Education (MSCHE), the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA), and other external accrediting agencies; as well as mandated reports from private external surveying agencies such as: U.S. News and World Report, Peterson’s, and the Princeton Review. Conduct complex and objective research studies using appropriate statistical techniques upon the request of the Associate Director of Institutional Research. In support of the Deans and the faculties of the schools: provide statistical data needed for individual program accreditation and grant initiatives; assist in the development of measurable learning goals and outcomes as well as in the selection of learning assessment instruments and strategies. Design, create, validate and maintain statistical programming code with statistical software packages, develop and document reusable code; familiar with the National Center of Education Statistics data; extract data sets from multiple sources, perform data checks, ensure data quality and integrity, implement and monitor data standards for formal processes. Represent the office in a variety of university committees on topics ranging from Student Retention to Middle States Accreditation to the Cardinal Station Student System. Responsible for developing, implementing, and evaluating all other essential functions of the office with attention to high standards and accuracy and performing other duties as assigned.
QualificationsA Master’s degree with approximately five (5) years’ experience with research or assessment in higher education or a comparable environment. Advanced degree and knowledge of research and statistics, higher education policy, national surveys, and institutional data management systems. Experience supervising 1-2 direct reports is preferred. The incumbent will also possess: experience reporting data and creating tables and graphs for multiple constituencies; strong analytical, written, and verbal communication skills; and the ability to work independently and under time pressure. Expert on statistics (descriptive and inferential), research methods, statistical software (SAS and SPSS; R preferred), databases, data visualization tools (Tableau preferred) and survey design (Qualtrics preferred). Position requires the ability to manipulate and extract datasets from the PeopleSoft Student System. Familiarity with national educational datasets.
