Job Duties

As a part of the work of Building Operational Excellence for a Next-Generation Land-Grant University and associated organizational changes, the office of Data, Assessment, and Institutional Research (DAIR) has assumed expanded roles and responsibilities in the areas of data warehouse design, implementation, maintenance and data management. DAIR is the steward of both the current (SQL Server) and the new cloud (Snowflake) data warehouse. This position is responsible for developing data design of conceptual, logical, and physical models in the data warehouses for business intelligence, analytics and application development. This position will work with data stewards and source system subject matter experts to understand the source systems that the data needs to be pulled from and into the data warehouses. This position will work on maintaining the existing data warehouse and development of the cloud data warehouse.

Job Qualifications

What You'll Need to Succeed:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree
  • Five years of relevant experience
  • Educational equivalency may be considered

Preferred Qualifications:

5+ years of relevant experience, including combination of the following:

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science or related field degree
  • Development of a data warehouse
  • Ability to create and review data models and design of overall data architecture
  • Data Integration concepts and strategies: ETL, EL-T, Data Warehousing, event-based processing
  • Database knowledge in SQL Server, Oracle, MySQL, or PostgreSQL
  • Programming in SQL, PL/SQL, etc
  • Experience in Higher Education
  • Experience working with Peoplesoft, SQL Server, SSIS, Oracle Financials
  • Working with ERP data and Reporting Systems/BI Experience with Informatica IICS and/or other cloud-based integration solutions
  • Mentoring and leading by example
  • Excellent oral and written and communication skills
  • Critical thinking ability
  • Excellent logical, analytical, and strong problem-solving capacity
  • Able to find root causes of problems and quickly determine efficient solutions
  • Personable and able to work in a team environment and respectfully interact with technical and nontechnical users
  • Proven experience in On-Premise, Cloud and Hybrid environments
  • Clear understanding of software development life cycle phases and practices

Institution Description

The Office of Data, Assessment, and Institutional Research (DAIR) at Kansas State University comprises multiple cross-functional teams dedicated to developing and implementing the institutional data strategy to revolutionize the utilization of institutional data assets. The Reporting & Analytics team spearheads the university's data report and business intelligence tool development, generating analytic models, conducting various analyses, and facilitating university-wide reporting to external agencies. Collaborating with IT units, the Enterprise Data Warehouse team leads data warehouse design, development, and maintenance efforts to enhance the value of university data for analytical and reporting purposes. The Assessment of Student Learning team provides leadership in assessing student learning outcomes, overseeing institutional accreditation, and coordinating program reviews across the university. Additionally, the Data Governance & Policy team collaborates with governing bodies to manage data policies and practices throughout the institutional data life cycle, fostering a culture of safe and collaborative use of institutional data assets to advance the university's strategic objectives.

This position allows for hybrid work, combining remote and on-site work. Preference is for on-site work 3 days a week, with flexibility based on unit needs. Remote employees may be required to travel to Manhattan campus, 1-2 times during each of the fall and spring semesters.
