Background
The U.S. Department of Education’s Financial Value Transparency (FVT) and Gainful Employment (GE) regulations require institutions to report key information about enrollment, student costs, and financial aid. These data are critical because the Department will use them in ways that directly affect students, programs, and institutions:
- Student financial aid. Career-focused programs must show they prepare students for good jobs. Programs that fall short may lose access to federal financial aid.
- Enrollment and disclosures. The Department will publish data showing what students can expect to pay, how much they may borrow, and typical earnings after graduation. Starting in July 2026, programs that don’t meet certain standards will also have to give prospective students clear warnings before they enroll.
AIR is committed to helping members navigate these requirements by providing timely guidance, practical tools, and opportunities to learn from one another.
This webpage includes information to assist institutions with the FVT/GE reporting requirements and are not, nor are they intended to be, legal advice or a substitute for regulatory guidance from the ED.
