Social Media Rules and Guidelines

Effective September 1, 2020

Thank you for being part of the Association for Institutional Research’s (AIR) social media community. Our social media platforms include Twitter, LinkedIn, Facebook, Instagram, and an AIR-managed LinkedIn group. To ensure the best possible experience for all followers and interested parties, we have established some basic guidelines for participation.

AIR is committed to providing a welcoming and inclusive environment for association activities and ensuring safe and dignified experiences for our community. We do not tolerate discrimination or harassment. We encourage and support the honest and respectful exchange of ideas and perspectives.

By following or interacting with our social media accounts, you agree that you have read and will follow these rules and guidelines. You also agree to reserve discussions and content to that which is best suited to the medium. AIR uses social media to open conversation and share updates, information, news, and more.

Please take a moment to acquaint yourself with these important guidelines. If you have questions, email air@airweb.org. In order to preserve an environment that encourages both civil and fruitful dialogue, we reserve the right to remove or block anyone who violates these rules.

The Rules

  • Respect others. Focus on the content of posts and not on the people making them.
  • All defamatory, abusive, profane, threatening, offensive, or illegal materials are strictly prohibited and will not be tolerated. Do not post anything that you would not want the world to see or that you would not want anyone to know came from you.
  • Respect the purpose of our platforms. Use our social media platforms to stay up to date on AIR news, announcements, etc. You may also tag AIR accounts in relevant posts such as sharing successes, challenges, constructive feedback, questions, and goals; NOT products or services that you provide.
  • Do not spam our accounts or our LinkedIn group. Refrain from sharing unsolicited, irrelevant, or inappropriate messages, especially in large quantities. AIR has the right to identify and immediately block spammers.
  • Use caution when discussing products. Information we are tagged in or that is posted in our groups is available for all to see, and comments are subject to libel, slander, and antitrust laws.
  • Respect intellectual property. Post content that you have personally created or have permission to use and have properly attributed to the content creator.

Legal Considerations and Disclaimers

AIR is not responsible for the opinions and information posted by others. We disclaim all warranties regarding information posted, whether posted by AIR or any third party; this disclaimer includes all implied warranties of merchantability and fitness. In no event shall AIR be liable for any special, indirect, or consequential damages or any damages whatsoever resulting from loss of use, data, or profits, arising out of or in connection with the use or performance of any information posted.

Do not associate AIR with any defamatory, abusive, profane, threatening, offensive, or illegal materials. Do not post any information or other material protected by copyright without the permission of the copyright owner. By posting material, the posting party warrants and represents that he or she owns the copyright with respect to such material or has received permission from the copyright owner.

Posts should not be shared if they encourage or facilitate followers and interested parties to arrive at any agreement that either expressly or impliedly leads to price fixing, a boycott of another's business, or other conduct intended to illegally restrict free trade. Posts that encourage or facilitate an agreement about the following subjects are inappropriate: prices, discounts, or terms or conditions of sale; salaries; profits, profit margins, or cost data; market shares, sales territories, or markets; allocation of customers or territories; or selection, rejection, or termination of customers or suppliers. AIR reserves the right to remove or block any user who does not abide by these guidelines.

Changes to These Rules and Guidelines

AIR reserves the right to modify these rules and guidelines at any time. All changes are posted to this page, as indicated by the effective date noted at the top of the page. User consent is based on the specifications of this privacy policy at time of use, and it is the user’s responsibility to familiarize oneself with the policy, including revisions. Your use or continued interest in AIR social media accounts following our posting of a change notice will constitute binding acceptance of this policy and all applicable changes.
