U.S. Department of Education Issues Reminder on 2025 FVT/GE Reporting Cycle and Upcoming Student Warning Requirements
On July 9, 2025, the U.S. Department of Education (ED) issued Electronic Announcement GE-25-03, reminding institutions that the 2025 Financial Value Transparency (FVT) and Gainful Employment (GE) reporting cycle opened July 1, 2025, and will remain open through October 1, 2025. This cycle covers data for the 2024–25 award year.
The announcement clarifies that the extended deadline of September 30, 2025, applies only to the 2024 reporting cycle. Institutions should note that the 2025 reporting cycle maintains its original October 1, 2025 deadline.
Looking ahead, ED has announced plans to launch a public-facing FVT disclosure website by July 2026, where program-level data—including debt, earnings outcomes, and warnings for programs identified as at risk—will be made publicly available.
Beginning July 1, 2026, institutions offering GE programs that fail debt-to-earnings tests will be required to issue student warnings prior to enrollment. Prospective students must review and acknowledge receipt of these warnings before they can enroll in programs deemed failing under federal standards.
