Education Department Extends FVT/GE Reporting to January 2027 as Deadline Passes

  • by AIR

The U.S. Department of Education has set a final deadline of January 15, 2027, for Financial Value Transparency and Gainful Employment (FVT/GE) data reporting, covering the 2024, 2025, and 2026 cycles, after the October 1, 2026 due date for 2026 data passed with more than 1,000 institutions delinquent. The extension appears in an October 8 update to a Federal Student Aid (FSA) electronic announcement (GENERAL-26-49).

FSA reports that nearly 1,400 institutions remain delinquent for the 2024 and 2025 cycles, on top of the more than 1,000 that missed the 2026 deadline. Institutions may also revise or correct previously submitted FVT/GE data through January 15, 2027, without being treated as delinquent, and those that submit all required data by that date won't need to file a statement to the Secretary. FSA says it doesn't plan to grant further extensions and that continued noncompliance could draw actions such as heightened cash monitoring, fines, or other sanctions.

For Institutional Research and Effectiveness (IR/IE) offices, which often own program-level reporting, the window is a chance to close gaps and correct earlier submissions as the accountability framework moves toward the Student Tuition and Transparency System (STATS). An updated list of institutions that have submitted data accompanies the announcement, though FSA notes it reflects which files were submitted, not whether they're complete or accurate.
