Job Duties

The Institutional Research & Reporting Lead provides coordination and day-to-day oversight of reporting activities performed by the Office of Institutional Planning & Analysis (IP&A), which includes cyclical collection, analysis, and submission of a variety of student and instructional data to the CSU Chancellor’s Office (CO), state and federal governments, accrediting and regulatory agencies, college ranking sites, and other internal and external entities. The incumbent builds strong working relationships with systemwide contacts, attending relevant CO meetings and user groups, and serves as an internal liaison to numerous campus departments and subject matter experts, working collaboratively to establish business processes and protocols, improve data quality and completeness, and retrieve and reconcile information from disparate sources. The Lead also supports the IP&A Director to continuously improve department operations, facilitate data governance efforts, and manage the campus’ ad hoc data request process, including intake, tracking, workload management, and consultation with stakeholders and data authorities to ensure appropriate analysis, use, and interpretation of data. This position will serve as both an individual contributor, taking primary responsibility for assigned reports and analytic projects, as well as a department leader, providing lead direction and mentorship to other IP&A team members.

Job Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in social and behavioral sciences, psychometrics, economics, mathematics, data or computer science, public or business administration or related field with comparable preparation in research methods, statistics, and data analysis. Graduate level training in research methods, statistics, and data analysis strongly preferred. 
  • Five years of progressively responsible administrative, technical, and professional analytical experience, including the development, maintenance, integration, and analysis of large-scale data sets for educational research and reporting purposes;
  • Experience and aptitude for directing a team toward common goals, demonstrated through formal supervision of staff or through more informal leadership activities, such as project management, mentorship, training, etc.
