Job Duties

Shawnee State University in Portsmouth, Ohio seeks a Director of Institutional Assessment and Accreditation. Reporting directly to the Provost, the Director of Institutional Assessment and Accreditation leads the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of systematic assessment processes across academic, co-curricular, and operational areas. This role ensures compliance with institutional and programmatic accreditation requirements and supports data-informed decision-making to enhance student learning outcomes and institutional effectiveness.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Institutional Assessment Leadership
    • Develop and manage comprehensive assessment systems for academic, co-curricular, and operational programs
    • Collaborate with all colleges and departments to facilitate the development and implementation of assessment plans and completion of related self-study and program review reports
    • Coordinate data collection, evaluation, and reporting of General Education assessments in collaboration with the College of Arts and Sciences Dean and Director of the General Education Program
    • Initiate, coordinate, and maintain accountability for assessment activities related to institutional effectiveness, including planning a regular schedule of program assessment
  2. Accreditation Compliance and Reporting
    • Serve as the Accreditation Liaison Officer and primary contact with the Higher Learning Commission (HLC), reporting to the Ohio Department of Higher Education
    • Ensure that accreditation responsibilities are fulfilled, including the development of reports and preparation for site visits (e.g., substantive change, interim reports, mid-cycle review, reaffirmation)
    • Archive all assessment and accreditation-related documents and correspondence, including HLC and other agency communications
    • Support programs and faculty in developing professional accreditation and program review reports
  3. Data Analysis and Strategic Planning
    • Work closely with the Director of Institutional Research, Reporting, and Analytics to track metrics and provide data analyses for institutional decision-making
    • Develop institution-wide surveys; analyze, summarize, and report results to stakeholders
    • Utilize technologies to collect, interpret, and present data on student and institutional performance
  4. Faculty and Staff Support
    • Provide training, workshops, and consultation on assessment and accreditation best practices
    • Collaborate with the Teaching and Learning Center and other units to offer professional development
    • Support faculty in developing measurable learning outcomes and effective assessment tools
  5. Committee Membership
    • Serve as member of the Academic Resource Management Committee (ARMC) the makes recommendation to the Provost on preliminary proposals for major programmatic changes that impact the outlay of financial resources within the division of Academic and Student Affairs
    • Serve as a non-voting member of the faculty Assessment and Accreditation Committee (AAC), participating in deliberations and initiatives related to assessment and accreditation

Job Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications: Master’s in Higher Education, Educational Research, Assessment, or related field and Four to Five (4-5) years experience
Preferred Qualifications: Doctorate or terminal degree in relevant field; Experience in higher education setting; Familiarity with assessment management systems; Experience facilitating professional development for faculty and staff.
