Job Duties
The Senior Applications Developer provides strategic, managerial, and technical leadership for the University’s enterprise application ecosystem. This includes responsibility for all Ellucian Banner modules and for related third-party enterprise systems that support academic, financial, human resources, and administrative operations. Reporting to the Chief Information and Technology Officer, the position oversees enterprise application development, system integrations, and business process improvement initiatives. The role combines hands-on advanced software development expertise with formal supervisory responsibility, ensuring enterprise systems are secure, reliable, scalable, and aligned with ESU and PASSHE governance, compliance, and strategic objectives.
To be successful in this position, the individual must effectively align enterprise application services with institutional strategy and compliance requirements, lead complex system integrations and business process improvement initiatives, and balance hands-on technical expertise with supervisory and cross-departmental collaboration.
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES
- Provide leadership and direction for enterprise application services in alignment with the University’s IT Strategic Plan and PASSHE Initiatives
- Supervise and mentor professional staff responsible for enterprise application development, support, and integration
- Direct development, enhancement, and operational support of Ellucian Banner modules, including Student, Financial Aid, Accounts Receivable, and General Ledger
- Guide technical strategy for related enterprise platforms such as Degree Works, TouchNet, Starfish (EAB), and StarRez
- Coordinate Banner upgrades, patches, and enhancements, including planning, testing, validation, and production development
- Design, develop, and oversee Oracle PL/SQL scripts, packages, stored procedures, and automated processes supporting enterprise systems
- Establish and enforce enterprise development standards focused on security, performance, maintainability, and data governance
- Lead application integrations using APIs, middleware, ETL tools, and scheduling platforms to support Bannder and third-party systems
- Performs related work as required
Job Qualifications
QUALIFICATIONS
· Bachelor’s degree in Computing Sciences, Information Systems, or a related field
· Minimum of seven (7) years of professional experience in enterprise application development, system integration, or information management
· Experience working with ERP systems, preferably within a higher education environment
· Oracle PL/SQL (development of scripts, packages, stored procedures, and performance optimization)
· Ellucian Banner ERP (module support, architecture, workflows, and itegrations)
· Unix/Linux operating systems
· API-based integrations, ETL processes, and middleware platforms
· Database technologies including Oracle, SQL, and MySQL
· Reporting analytics tools such as Power BI
· Familiarity with cloud platforms including AWS, Google Cloud Platform, and Microsoft Azure
· Able to think critically and apply sound judgement to complex technical and operational problems
· Able to lead teams, set priorities, and manage multiple initiatives concurrently
· Able to collaborate effectively with technical staff, functional stakeholders, and leadership
· Able to adapt quickly to changing priorities and respond effectively to unplanned system or operational needs
· Must be able to speak, read, write, and comprehend English; able to create clear verbal and written messages.
