Job Duties
The CUNY School of Medicine is seeking to recruit (1) Institutional Research Manager (Data Scientist) in the department of Institutional Effectiveness and Assessment. The Institutional Research Manager (Data Scientist) will report to the PSch Associate Dean of Institutional Effectiveness and Assessment.
In addition to the CUNY Title Overview, the duties include but are not limited to the following responsibilities:
Collect, analyze, and interpret large educational datasets to identify trends and provide actionable insights for enrollment management, student retention, and institutional performance.
Develop and deploy machine learning models to predict student outcomes, improve retention rates, and optimize resource allocation.
Conduct qualitative analysis using natural language processing workflows, such as topic modeling, sentiment analysis, and text classification.
Collaborate with academic and administrative departments to understand their data needs and provide tailored analytic solutions.
Create comprehensive data reports, dashboards, and visualizations to communicate findings to stakeholders in a clear and actionable manner.
Use predictive analytics to support student success initiatives and enhance academic planning.
Implement data governance policies and ensure compliance with privacy regulations such as FERPA (Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act).
Stay current with the latest trends and technologies in higher education data science and apply innovative approaches to solving complex educational challenges.
Analyze complex student, enrollment, and institutional datasets to improve student outcomes, retention, and operational efficiencies.
Serve as lead data strategist to build predictive models, create visualizations, and collaborate with academic leaders to turn data into strategic decisions.
Clean, manipulate, and analyze large datasets (structured/unstructured) to identify trends in student performance and institutional effectiveness.
Collaborate with departments to solve data problems related to curriculum, staffing, and student services.
Devise and utilize algorithms and models to mine big-data stores; perform data and error analysis to improve models; clean and validate data for uniformity and accuracy.
CUNY TITLE OVERVIEW
Manages College institutional research programs and studies related to the College's mission.
Develops relevant, timely and accurate institutional information to administrators, the college community, the external community, and external agencies.
Defines and implements research studies, designing and conducting data analyses and analyzing and interpreting results.
Researches, develops and recommends policy analyses relevant to anticipated institutional planning, policy, and decision-making needs.
Participates in college-wide strategic planning, institutional effectiveness and outcomes assessment tasks.
Respond to data, table and report requests from college constituencies.
Manage surveys, questionnaires and other data-gathering instruments administered by the Office.
Manages a library of institutional planning and research documents.
May consult with faculty and students in the design of databases for research projects
Performs related duties as assigned.
Job Qualifications
QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor's Degree and six years' relevant experience required.
Preferred Qualifications
• Seven or more years of experience in data science.
• Deep understanding of data visualization, data analysis and database management systems.
• Proficiency with data mining, mathematics, and statistical analysis.
• Advanced experience in pattern recognition and predictive modeling.
• Experience with Excel, PowerPoint, Tableau, SQL, and programming languages (ex: Java/Python, SAS).
• Ability to work effectively in a dynamic, research-oriented group that has several concurrent projects.
