Job Duties

The responsibilities of the Institutional Research Specialist will include, but are not limited to:

  • Monitor, track, and report the key performance indicators of the institution's strategic plan

  • Provide reliable and accurate statistics about the college in an easily accessible and readable format for both internal and external consumption.

  • Collaborate with the Director of IR on data collection and administration of student and faculty surveys

  • Respond to assigned ad hoc data and report requests from college constituencies

  • Maintain currency in higher education data and accreditation trends including environmental scans, evaluation of national research studies, white papers, and other relevant literature on current and best practices in institutional effectiveness

  • Support the institutional research needs of academic departments and schools undergoing program review

  • Complete and submit reports mandated by statute, government regulations, or requirements of accreditation

CUNY TITLE OVERVIEW

Oversees collection and assessment of data for Institutional Research purposes.

  • Compiles, maintains, and analyzes institutional data in various formats

  • Produces reports and metrics based on department's needs; responds to time-critical ad-hoc requests

  • Loads, extracts, edits, and evaluates data for reporting and analytics

  • Maintains selected databases and document libraries, updating and ensuring data quality and accuracy

  • May participate in internal and external surveys as needed

  • May consult with others in designing methodology for research projects

  • Performs related duties as assigned.

Job Qualifications

Bachelor's Degree and four years' relevant experience required.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with accreditation standards and processes is expected

  • Master’s degree in data analytics, data visualization, information systems, or related field

  • Ability to collect, analyze, and interpret qualitative and quantitative data

  • Strong communication skills with the ability to present and describe data verbally and visually

  • Demonstrated ability to manage strict deadlines, multiple priorities, and concurrent projects

  • Demonstrated facility with data visualization software (e.g., Tableau, Power BI or similar),

  • Advanced Excel functions and statistical software (e.g., R, SPSS, STATA or similar)

  • Demonstrated knowledge of SQL, Python, Oracle, PeopleSoft, or other similar ERP systems

  • Experience using AI tools, automation, or workflow technologies to support institutional research, data reporting, or related administrative processes.
