Job Duties

Duties include but are not limited to:

  • Extract, clean, validate, and analyze institutional data from the institutional data warehouse and other data sources to produce timely, accurate, and relevant information for administrators, the Graduate Center community, external stakeholders, and reporting agencies.

  • Develop and update institutional reports, dashboards, and visualizations related to admissions, enrollment, retention, graduation, time-to-degree, student success, and other key performance indicators.

  • Conduct institutional research studies and data analyses to address strategic questions, evaluate initiatives, and support data-informed decision-making.

  • Support the maintenance of the institutional data warehouse through routine data updates, quality assurance, and documentation.

  • Support institutional survey initiatives, including survey development, administration, analysis, and reporting of results.

  • Interpret quantitative and qualitative data and communicate findings through reports, presentations, dashboards, and other formats tailored to diverse audiences.

  • Maintain documentation of data definitions, reporting methodologies, business rules, and analytical processes to promote transparency and consistency.

  • Collaborate with academic and administrative stakeholders to identify information needs, define reporting requirements, and provide analytical support for institutional effectiveness initiatives.

  • Manage multiple projects, reporting cycles, and deadlines while exercising strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and sound judgment.

  • Stay current with institutional research methodologies, higher education reporting requirements, survey practices, and analytical tools.

  • Perform related duties as assigned.

Job Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor's Degree and six years' relevant experience required.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's degree with coursework in research methodology, statistical analysis, data visualization, and survey research methods, with at least four years of relevant professional experience.

  • Ph.D. preferred in quantitative, analytical, social science, education, public policy, or related fields.

  • Demonstrated ability to conduct independent research studies, including research design, data collection, analysis, interpretation, and reporting of findings to support institutional decision-making.

  • Strong analytical, quantitative, and problem-solving skills, with experience in data management, validation, analysis, and interpretation.

  • Proficiency in SQL and statistical analysis software and tools such as R.

  • Experience developing dashboards and data visualizations using Tableau or similar tools.

  • Experience designing and administering surveys using Qualtrics, as well as processing and analyzing survey data.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with experience producing reports and presentations for executive leadership and external stakeholders, with the ability to translate complex data into actionable insights.

  • Demonstrated ability to work independently, take initiative, and manage multiple priorities and deadlines.

  • Strong attention to details and consistent work quality.

  • Experience with institutional research, higher education analytics, and student success metrics, including admissions, enrollment, retention, graduation, and time-to-degree analyses.

Institution Description

The Office of Institutional Research and Effectiveness, within the Provost's Office of the Graduate Center (GC) of The City University of New York (CUNY), provides leadership in the areas of institutional research, institutional assessment, data governance and analytics, information sharing and communication, and regional accreditation. The Institutional Research Manager / Senior Research Analyst will report to the Director for Institutional Effectiveness.

All full-time and part-time CUNY staff are expected to work in-person at their campus office 80% of their work time. For full-time staff, this is equivalent to 4 out of 5 days of in-person work in one-week period (e.g., 4 days in-person, 1 day remote). This hybrid work schedule is subject to change.

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS

$77,173-$102,408/year (salary will increase to $79,874–$105,992/year as of 9/1/26 per the PSC contract).Salary commensurate with education and experience.
