PDP: Relationship Between Academic Performance and Gateway Course Completion

This tutorial introduces participants to the Gateway Course Completion Dashboard available through the Postsecondary Data Partnership (PDP). Users will learn how to apply dimensions and filters to explore how academic performance, measured by GPA, relates to first-year students’ success in completing required math and English gateway courses. The course also demonstrates how to analyze achievement gaps based on academic performance and interpret trends across multiple cohorts to support targeted interventions for student success.

Learning Outcomes:

  • Understand the functionality and metrics of the Gateway Course Completion Dashboard.
  • Apply the GPA range dimension to assess gateway course completion by academic performance.
  • Interpret patterns in gateway course completion rates across different GPA categories.
  • Analyze how different course grades (A, B, C, D, Pass, Not Pass) impact gateway completion gaps.
  • Use findings to identify students who may need additional academic support.
