California State University, Dominguez Hills, was established in 1960 and is one of the 23 campuses that comprise The California State University system. Job dutiesConditions of Employment:

Possession of a valid Driver's License is required.  Employees in this position will be enrolled in the Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) Government Employer Pull Notice Program which confirms possession of a valid driver's license and reflects driving record.

The person holding this position is considered a `mandated reporter' under the California Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act and is required to comply with the requirements set forth in CSU Executive Order 1083 as a condition of employment.

Due to the nature of this position, the successful candidate is required to complete a background check prior to assuming this position.

Position Information:

This is a full-time (temporary) position.

** Successful candidates in these temporary appointments may be appointed from a few days up to one year depending on the assignment. Temporary appointments must end on or before the end of the fiscal year (June 30th of the following year), with the possibility of renewal.

Department: Educational Opportunity Programs

The Educational Opportunity Program (EOP) is an alternate admissions program designed for students who may not meet university admission requirements and who are economically and educationally disadvantaged, yet display the desire and potential to succeed in higher education.  Only California residents are eligible

Major Job Duties:
Under the general supervision of the EOP Associate Director/Director, the EOP Advisor will support programs and services offered as part of EOP's college retention and success initiatives.
Demonstrated ability to advise students in individual and group settings. Demonstrated knowledge of the areas of academic advising, educational equity programs, assessment and related student support services and programs. Knowledge of California State University admission and course pattern requirements. Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate in writing and orally. Training or experience that would indicate an ability to successfully facilitate large group discussion/presentations. Demonstrated experience and/or knowledge of computer applications and technology related to advising functions. Ability to assist in the development and implementation of student success and related projects. Knowledge of or ability to learn and apply the laws, regulations, rules and/or guidelines that govern institutions of higher learning. Experience working collaboratively with a team. Demonstrated sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability and ethnic backgrounds of college/university students.

Certification: Valid driver’s License

The position may require use of the following equipment, machinery, tools, and/or vehicles: central computer (student service information system), desktop computer, calculator, photocopier FAX, multi-line telephone system, email, and the use of a personal automobile.

Experience and Education:

Required Education: Equivalent to graduation from a four-year college or university in one of the behavioral sciences, public or business administration or a job-related field.  Additional specialized experience during which the applicant has acquired and successfully applied the knowledge and abilities shown above may be substituted for the required education on a year for year basis.

Preferred Education: Master’s degree from an accredited college or university in Student Affairs/Development, Counseling, Higher Education or a related field

Required Experience: Possession of these knowledge and abilities is typically demonstrated through the equivalent of two years of professional experience in one of the student services program areas or in a related field; experience should give evidence of competence and indicate the potential for further growth. A master's degree in a job related field may substitute for one year of professional experience.
Salary rangeDependent on qualifications and experience
Salary benefitsSalary Range: The salary range for this classification is: $3,935 - $5,595 monthly.
