Job dutiesThe Associate Director of Institutional Research supports the Director of Institutional Research in complying with internal and external reporting demands, assists in the analysis of institutional data leading to institutional assessment and strategic planning, and supports the communication of key data through various online platforms. The Associate Director will manage the day to day operations of the Office of Institutional Research including direct supervision of one or more analysts and student workers. The Associate Director will work collaboratively with academic departments, the Office of Information Technology, Registrar, Admissions and Enrollment Management, Financial Aid, and Student Affairs to oversee and coordinate the preparation and analysis of federal, state, and external reports; submission of college guides; administration and analysis of internal and national surveys; and dissemination of institutional data and information to public audiences. The Associate Director will lead or support internal data governance efforts to promote the consistency, reliability, and integrity of campus data.
QualificationsMaster’s degree required, preferably in a quantitatively-oriented field such as Social Science, Educational Research or Planning, Higher Education Administration, Statistics, or Mathematics. Two to three years of experience in multiple areas of higher education to include institutional research, institutional effectiveness, data analysis, research methods, and strategic planning, preferably in a liberal arts setting. Experience with federal reporting standards (IPEDS) and Maryland/MHEC state reporting requirements (MAC, MAC2) is highly preferred. Demonstrated experience and competency utilizing data management systems, including spreadsheets, statistical and database applications, business intelligence/reporting tools (e.g., Cognos/Impromptu, Informer), and data visualization tools (e.g., Tableau). Excellent analytical and organizational skills; excellent written and oral communication skills; an attention to detail; and effective and collaborative leadership skills. Previous management experience desirable. Any combination of acceptable education and experience, which has provided the necessary knowledge and skills to fulfill the requirements of this position, may be considered.
