Tallahassee, Fla. – (December 19, 2018) – The Association for Institutional Research (AIR) announced today that AIR and the Institute for Higher Education Policy (IHEP) will host an interactive policy summit August 1-2, 2019, in Minneapolis, Minnesota, for higher education organizations that are using data to promote student success and affect policy change. The third of a series of policy summits, the event has three primary goals:
- facilitating a space for policy and institution experts to convene, share wisdom and experiences, and translate on-the-ground data policies for a policymaker audience,
- developing institution representatives as advocates at the state and federal levels, including educating and building bridges about the importance of advocacy and institutional voices related to data to inform decision making, and
- fostering a data-informed organizational culture designed to improve student success.
Teams are invited to apply for a spot at this event by completing a brief application stating their interest in participation and sharing information on their organization's data culture. These details will inform the design of the agenda and activities during the summit. An ideal team will consist of representatives and professionals from a variety of departments at an institution or system office, including:
- Executive leadership
- Institutional research/effectiveness
- Government relations
- Other data producers and users, such as enrollment managers
IHEP will provide a travel grant for the 20 teams selected to participate. This grant is intended to cover travel expenses for the representatives described in the application. Rooms at the conference hotel will also be included. Conversations and lessons learned during the summit will be used to shape IHEP’s institutional engagement efforts through the PostsecData Collaborative and AIR’s outreach and resources related to data policy.
Application submission due date is January 31, 2019. Direct application questions to Amanda Janice Roberson, IHEP or Gina Johnson, AIR. For technical difficulties, contact Eleanor Eckerson Peters, IHEP. AIR & IHEP will communicate next steps in March 2019.
