Institutional Research Community Calls for Delay in Reporting Requirements Implementation to U.S. Department of Education

  • by AIR

The institutional research and institutional effectiveness (IR/IE) community has united to advocate for a delay in implementing the reporting requirements related to the Financial Value Transparency (FVT) and Gainful Employment (GE) regulations beyond the July 31, 2024, deadline. In a letter addressed to U.S. Department of Education (ED), Christine M. Keller, PhD, AIR Executive Director & CEO, shared the concerns and perspectives of IR/IE professionals nationwide.

The letter, representing the collective voice of the IR/IE community, emphasizes the challenges faced by institutions of higher education in complying with the reporting requirements for FVT and GE programs. It highlights significant concerns regarding the lack of clear guidance, insufficient time for accurate data compilation, and the potential impact on data quality and usefulness to students and their families.

The letter to Secretary Cardona follows a collaborative effort by various higher education associations, including the Association for Institutional Research (AIR), which co-sponsored webinars on the FVT/GE reporting requirements with over 5,100 registrants. The feedback received from attendees underscored specific concerns regarding data definitions, guidance, coordination efforts, and staffing capacity.
