Director of Institutional Effectiveness

Job Duties

  • Lead institutional effectiveness efforts, including academic and administrative assessment, strategic planning support, and outcomes reporting.
  • Coordinate and support regional and specialized accreditation processes, including compliance with SACSCOC (Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges) standards and programmatic accreditation standards.
  • Act as a trusted liaison with the SCHEV Academic Affairs Office and take a lead role in the university’s proposal development and submissions to SCHEV
  • Provide leadership and guidance to academic departments on the development and  assessment of student learning outcomes and academic program review.
  • Plan, direct, coordinate, and assess the activities of professional staff members responsible for various areas within the Office of Institutional Effectiveness. Ensure that the office staff is well trained and effective. Provide guidance on projects and assist staff members when they encounter difficulties with a task.
  • Develop and implement institutional effectiveness policies and best practices that align with university goals and ensure that program review, assessment and reporting systems align with programmatic and institutional accreditation standards.
  • Design and conduct research studies with particular emphasis on student and faculty outcomes to include student learning, student success, and faculty morale. Prepare and present clear, concise, and accurate reports to senior leadership, faculty committees, and external stakeholders as needed.
  • Collaborate with the Office of Institutional Research and other stakeholders to ensure data-informed decision-making.
  • Develop and deliver training and resources to faculty and staff to support assessment, curriculum development, institutional planning initiatives, and SCHEV approvals. Represent the university at state, regional, and national meetings related to institutional effectiveness, assessment, accreditation, and higher education policy.

Job Qualifications

  • Master’s degree required in Education, Education Research, Social Sciences, Business, Applied Statistics or a related field required, doctoral degree preferred
  • At least 5 years of experience in institutional effectiveness, accreditation, assessment, institutional research, curriculum development or a closely related area in higher education.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of higher education accreditation processes (especially SACSCOC) and familiarity with SCHEV requirements and procedures.
  • Strong understanding of current and innovative practices in assessment methodologies and curriculum development.
  • Proven ability to work collaboratively across academic and administrative units and gain consensus among varied constituents.
  • Excellent analytical, project management, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Familiarity with data systems and reporting tools (e.g., Watermark, SPSS, SAS, R, Banner, Qualtrics, or similar platforms).
  • Ability to handle high pressure, particularly when accreditation reports are due, with responsibility for meeting deadlines, managing a diverse range of tasks and resolving issues quickly and Effectively.
  • Experience working in a public university or state system in Virginia preferred
  • Experience with SCHEV proposal submissions preferred
  • Minimum of 3 years of supervisory experience in higher education preferred
  • Knowledge of emerging trends and best practices in higher education policy, planning, and accountability preferred
