Job Duties

Job Summary
The Institutional Effectiveness team at Glendale Community College is seeking a skilled and inquisitive data scientist for the role of Planning and Research Analyst Senior. This position serves a vital role in transforming complex data into actionable insights that support institutional change, student success, and strategic decision-making across the College.

As a technical and strategic partner, this position will lead high-impact analytics projects, design compelling visualizations using tools like Tableau, and develop sophisticated SQL queries to integrate and interpret data from enterprise systems. Working with both college- and district-level stakeholders, this position will serve as a subject-matter expert on data methodology, dashboard development, and institutional reporting.

This will be an on-site position, offering the opportunity to collaborate face-to-face with passionate colleagues, engage directly with campus stakeholders, and be immersed in the vibrant campus community while shaping data-informed solutions that make a lasting impact. This position will be responsible for leading and supervising departmental research professional(s). 
 
Essential Functions
30% - Data Visualization and Dashboard Development
  • Design, build, and maintain interactive dashboards and data visualizations using Tableau to support data-informed decision-making across the College.
  • Document dashboard processes and ensure they are accessible, scalable, and aligned with institutional goals.
20% - Data Extraction, Integration, and Query Development
  • Develop and optimize complex SQL queries to extract, integrate, and validate data from multiple relational databases.
  • Create and maintain reusable, published data sources for use by analysts, developers, and institutional stakeholders.
20% - Research and Analysis for Strategic Decision-Making 
  • Lead and support complex research projects and studies with college-level impact.
  • Analyze and interpret enterprise data to generate insights, and produce high-quality reports, visualizations, and presentations to inform institutional strategy.
15% - Leadership, Consultation, Collaboration, and Training
  • Serve as a subject-matter expert for enterprise data and tools.
  • Provide professional-level consultation and support to departments, committees, and employees.
  • Develop and deliver training, workshops, and technical documentation related to data tools and best practices.
  • Plans, organizes, assigns, supervises, reviews, and evaluates the work of staff. 
15% - Institutional Support, Service Excellence, and Project Coordination
  • Support the mission and reporting requirements of the college and District, including serving as liaison for work teams and committees.
  • Assist with or lead project planning, organization, supervision, and evaluation of assigned staff and/or deliverables.
  • Stay informed on emerging technologies and trends to continuously improve data services and capabilities.
  • Other duties as assigned to meet the needs of the department and the College. 

Job Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree from a regionally accredited institution in business statistics, educational studies, business administration, or a directly related field, and four years of professional-level experience in research and analysis that includes responsibility for coordinating projects and programs.

An equivalent combination of the conferred degree and directly related full-time work experience as described above, sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job, such as those listed above, unless otherwise subject to any other requirements set forth in law or regulation, may be considered. 

Desired Qualifications
A. Master’s degree in Data/Information Management, Computer Science, Statistics, Educational Research, or a closely related field.

B. Experience developing data visualizations and/or reports using business intelligence tools such as Tableau, Power BI, or similar platforms in a server-based environment.

C. Experience writing and editing complex SQL queries to extract, transform, and validate data from relational databases.

D. Two years’ experience using statistical software such as SPSS, R, SAS, or JASP to conduct quantitative analysis.

E. Experience conducting institutional research or similar data analysis work in higher education, including familiarity with student success metrics, compliance reporting, and/or accreditation support.

F. Experience supervising and/or leading a team in areas of data analytics, research and/or business intelligence.
