Position Summary/Profile
Central Connecticut State University invites applications to join the Office of Institutional Research and Assessment as a full-time Institutional Research Specialist. We seek applicants who thrive in a fast-paced environment with strong attention to detail, excellent project management skills, and a desire to leverage large data bases in support of student success and institutional effectiveness.
Performs data analyses and facilitates the long-range planning and program assessment processes of the University (i.e., institutional effectiveness). Provides analytical, statistical, and report generation in support of assessment/evaluation, data extraction and analyses, etc. Creates, maintains, and documents statistical and reporting programs and develops web-based data collection and reporting mechanisms to support the institution's research and planning efforts and to comply with federal and state accountability requirements.
Job Qualifications
Minimum Experience and Training
- Bachelors degree and three (3) years of experience in research and/or data analyses or relevant areas
- Professional experience with Banner (or other student information systems), data management, and analysis
- Knowledge of STATA, SPSS, R, SAS or other similar statistical packages and proficient experience with Excel or Access
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and collaborate with others, meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment; be detail oriented; and committed to data integrity, confidentiality, and student success.
Credentials and/or experience substantially comparable to the above may also be considered.
Ideal Candidate – Preference will be given to applicants with the following:
- Master’s degree in a quantitative field is preferred
- Knowledge of advanced statistics, ability to write and interpret command syntax for the statistical package
- Proficient in using Excel formulas and functions
- Ability to build reports, and interactive charts/graphs using tools such as Toad Data Point, Tableau or Power BI
- Excellent analytical skills.
- Experience writing and interpreting command syntax such as SQL, Python, etc.

The Office of Institutional Research and Assessment collaborates with offices from all divisions within the university to improve institutional effectiveness. The Office contributes significantly to institutional accreditation (New England Commission on Higher Education, NECHE), strategic planning, assessment of student learning, factors leading to student success, as well as standard state and federal reporting.
