Institution descriptionThe Executive Director of Institutional Effectiveness and Research position is focused on directing, planning, coordinating, and instituting the assessment, evaluation and improvement processes at IU South Bend, including campus wide accreditation. This person will be responsible for leadership in developing campus and supporting unit strategic plans and their evaluation. Expectations include assembling studies within the Institutional Research paradigm for strategic planning needs of the campus and providing overall support and analysis of the data needs of the campus. Assessment and metric development will be essential to support accreditation reports and campus priorities. Reports will include oral presentations, written reports to internal and external constituencies, Higher Learning Commission, and other educational coordinating bodies. Work will involve a high level of confidentiality especially in the context of student and personnel records.
Job dutiesDevelop policy recommendations for institutional effectiveness initiatives through data-driven decision making (including but not limited to campus performance measures). Evaluate and analyze institutional and other data in order to develop metrics of effectiveness in academic units and support RCs. Consult with senior administration and the Institutional Effectiveness Advisory Board in order to develop and plan action steps to improvement. Contribute to the literature on institutional effectiveness and research through publications in appropriate journals and presentations at scholarly meetings. Scholarly work would be essential for raising the stature of IU South Bend and its solutions of educational problems in the urban context. Develop and coordinate a comprehensive system of evaluation for all programs and units that contribute to the mission and strategic goals of the University. This includes assisting with faculty-based assessment efforts in curriculum development and student learning outcomes. External review infrastructure for academic and support units would be essential in strategic planning and improvement initiatives, especially in a context of multiple disciplines and professional programs. Maintain ongoing relationships with the AQIP and the Higher Learning Commission and oversee the process of reaffirmation of accreditation, development of major recertification reports, and develop and maintain an infrastructure to anticipate problems and their solutions. Coordinate the communication of the results of assessment, evaluation and improvement initiatives. Develop institutional cross section reflecting campus demographics and achievements, maintain up-to-date web presence.
QualificationsMaster’s Degree in data analytics, social sciences, applied mathematics, statistics, computer science or a related field, and a minimum of three years’ experience in higher education including managerial experience. Course work in statistics, research design and analysis, assessment and program evaluation techniques, technical report writing and survey methods (preferred, as is a Ph.D.). Advanced research methodology, including qualitative and quantitative techniques, expert skills with data management and query tools; expertise with descriptive and analytical data analysis using SPSS, SAS, or other data analysis programs; knowledge of and experience with strategic planning, research design, statistical techniques, assessment and computerized databases; and strong analytical, interpersonal and communication skills; and ability to work productively as part of a team.
