Department: University Advising Center

The mission of the University Advisement Center at CSUDH is to work in partnership with DH students through a collaborative process that identifies the most comprehensive path towards academic success. The UAC is home to professional academic advisors that are an essential academic resource for every DH student. We strive to advance the campus community’s mission of student-centered services by aiding all DH students to persist and matriculate towards degree completion. We endeavor to achieve this mission by employing academic and developmental advising best-practices that positively contributes to the DH student experience.

Major Job Duties:
Under the general supervision of the AVP for Retention and Academic Advising, the incumbent provides academic advisement and information on University policies, procedures, and graduation requirements to the undergraduate student population to support in retention, closing the achievement gap, and degree completion. Additionally, the incumbent supports and advises students, provides advising interventions, makes recommendation on individual cases to resolve student problems within established parameters, regulations and guidelines, and tracks each student cohort thereafter to ensure efficient degree completion. Furthermore, the incumbent will collaborate with other UAC advisors to plan, coordinate, and implement one-on-one and interactive group workshops designed specifically to support optimal time to degree completion (New Student Orientation, Charge on to Graduation, Strategies Towards Educational Progress and Success, Freshman Advising for Successful Toros, Toro Explore, etc.). Incumbent will provide information related to student aptitudes, interests and abilities to ensure proficiency in class level Student Advising Learning Outcomes.

- Ability to use standard office software, including spreadsheet and database applications to generate analytical reports.
- Demonstrate ability to use creativity in generating business solutions in a fast-paced working environment.
- Ability to function effectively as part of a high performance team.

Experience and Education:

Required Education: Equivalent to graduation from a four-year college or university in one of the behavioral sciences, public or business administration, or a job related field. Additional specialized experience during which the applicant has acquired and successfully applied the knowledge and abilities shown above may be substituted for the required education on a year for year basis.

Required Experience: Possession of these knowledge and abilities is typically demonstrated through the equivalent of one year of experience in professional Student Services work at the entry trainee level. Equivalent amounts of graduate level job related education may be substituted for the required experience.
Salary rangeDependent on qualifications and experience
Salary benefitsSalary Range: The salary range for this classification is: $3,402 - $4,812 monthly.
