Institution descriptionThe Institutional Research Associate is responsible for supporting all state, federal, program accreditation support, accreditation support for the university and other mandatory reports for Central Washington University.
Job dutiesRegulatory, Agency and Operational Reporting
- For the purposes of this job posting the definition of client consists of any administrator, staff, faculty member or external constituent that requests services from the Institutional Effectiveness department.
- Is responsible for timely and accurate submission of institutional data to regulatory agencies through use of ArcGIS, FOCUS and SAS programming languages to meet these deadlines. Assures data quality through proactive assessment of requirements, and secures acquisition of high integrity data elements from authoritative sources using comparative means from past data reported, edit checks etc.
- Assures data needed for regulatory reporting, consortia surveys, college guides, and other collections is appropriately captured and coded and maintained through collaboration with data owners in relevant operational units as well as staff in student systems management, administrative technology solutions and other clients of the department.
- Maintains current knowledge of federal and state regulatory reporting requirements and is responsible for the identification of modifications as needed to satisfy requirement changes.
- Responsible and accountable for the completion of submission for state and federal reports including but not limited to: State of Washington, IPEDS, Consortium for Retention and Data Exchange, NSF and other federal/state reports.
- Performs data analysis on any survey or operational data need that requires benchmarking or external comparisons for accreditation or other institutional purposes.
- Acquires and applies in-depth knowledge base regarding data definitions and sources, both internal and external to the institution, for reporting requirements.

Decision Support
- Supports colleges, academic and administrative units by deriving official institutional statistics as needed for accreditation reports, grant writing efforts, and assessment activities in a timely manner.
- For internal audiences, analyzes, compiles, and presents quantitative and qualitative results. Incorporates relevant qualitative academic issues and quantitative benchmarks from national sources and member consortia in conveying project outcome accurately and concisely to the client.
- Participates in the development and ongoing support of the data warehouse.
- Collaborates with other institutional effectiveness staff in developing data streams associated with routine as well as ad hoc reporting requirements from the data warehouse or other authoritative data sources.
- Provides other members in the office support in the generating electronic publication of the Institutional Effectiveness and other data needed by the institution.

Data/Report Warehousing
- Creates reports that originate from either the enterprise database systems or from the official data warehouse using ArcGIS, FOCUS or SAS programming language.

QualificationsMinimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s in social science or related field
Skilled in interpreting and applying file specifications in preparation of files for submission to various agencies and organizations.
Skilled in querying large databases and manipulating data sets.
Has an ability to work well in team environments.
Ability to learn SAS, FOCUS and ArcGIS.
Excellent verbal and written communication and presentation skills in concisely communicating the results of research and/or analysis to diverse constituencies.
Skilled in troubleshooting and creatively responding to dynamic situations.
Skilled in prioritizing and coordinating multiple tasks, while meeting project deadlines.
Effective interpersonal skills to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships based on collaboration, diplomacy, and respect, with external agency personnel and within the University community.
The ability to manage employees effectively.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience working with federal and state reports.

Salary rangeDependent on qualifications and experience
Salary benefitsSchedule/Appointment: Monday - Friday, 8:00am-5:00pm (1 hour lunch); some weeknights and weekends may be required

Working Conditions: Work is performed in an indoor office setting with frequent in-person interactions. It is essential to be able to remain at a desk/computer work station for prolonged periods of time, perform extensive data entry and other computer-related tasks and create/maintain filing systems for departmental records. Some evening or weekend work and/or occasional travel may be required.
