Organizational Description for this Position :The State University of New York, College at Plattsburgh seeks an experienced, research-oriented Data Analyst to join a team of professionals working in a collaborative, energetic, and creative environment to enhance the college’s Strategic Enrollment Management (SEM) success.

We're looking for someone to join a new strategic effort to better equip the college to make bold and intelligent choices that will not just sustain our campus but push us forward.

Reporting to the Associate V.P. for SEM, this position involves work directed by SEM-related research questions, with goals to improve decision-making and set strategic direction. Internal, external, and trend data will be used to assess issues on the SEM agenda. The work also will focus on combining analytics, interactions, and workflows in ways that support transforming insights into actions that improve student success and business efficiencies.

Outcomes of this robust analytics approach will include descriptive, diagnostic, predictive, and prescriptive reports. Areas of interest include data-driven services, business-process improvement and ROI, academic cost and efficiency, academic program performance, enrollment capacity and growth, student recruitment and marketplace studies, student retention and graduation outcomes, and financial aid optimization.

The successful candidate will have an understanding of and experience in SEM analytics. They will be responsible for helping to develop the SEM research and reporting agenda. Activities include data quality initiatives, selecting and examining data to generate new strategic information, programming and statistical analysis to support SEM components, establishing user-friendly campus repositories of integrated data from disparate sources, data management, data analysis, developing reports that serve the real-time needs of decision-makers, and leveraging data visualization to enhance SEM reporting capabilities.

The position will work collaboratively with the SEM team and other campus constituencies, and will help to develop a new strategic partnership with campus information technology (IT) services.
Job duties•Develop valid data sets from internal and external sources to inform the SEM operation in alignment with strategy. Predictive, descriptive, and diagnostic reports will deliver real-time data to decision-makers using ARGOS and other visualization tools. Work entails programming and statistical analysis.
•Create comprehensive SEM metrics that measure performance, progress toward goals, and the quality of business processes. These metrics support the college’s ability to recruit and graduate students efficiently, and to manage business processes affecting student success and net revenue.
•Provide comprehensive analysis of findings to inform the SEM team and campus stakeholders.
•Communicate findings in professional oral and written presentations and reports.
•Work in close partnership with SEM team members and campus stakeholders on SUNY Plattsburgh’s main and Branch campuses.
•Work with Information Technology colleagues in a special partnership to support data-informed decision-making on campus.
QualificationsRequired Qualifications:
●At time of employment, Master's degree in information sciences, information management, or related field, with a minimum of three years’ experience in higher education.
●Demonstrated competency in using enrollment management or related higher-education models, including strategies, processes, principles, best-practices, and reporting requirements.
●Experience in identifying data and analytics for business intelligence and research-based design.
●Demonstrated proficiency in retrieving data from Student Data Management Systems (e.g., Banner or PeopleSoft) using SQL, and data-visualization software.
●Demonstrated proficiency in programming.
●Knowledge of best practices for electronic reporting.
●Expertise in the application of statistical techniques, including regression analysis, and the ability to learn and apply new statistical techniques.
●Demonstrated proficiency in statistical software (e.g., SPSS, SAS, R).
●Strong communication skills, with demonstrated ability to communicate findings orally and through visual formats to those with less or no expertise.
●Experience in team approaches to creative problem-solving.

Preferred Qualifications:
●Experience in using SCT Banner.
●Experience in higher-education marketing.
●Experience in developing institutional strategy in a higher-ed setting.
●Proficiency with ARGOS
●Experience in creating compelling stories using data, to better understand capabilities, customers, and business processes.
