Job dutiesDevelops and designs complex systems for the extraction, compilation, analysis, and processing of institutional data aimed towards fulfilling regional and program accreditation reporting requirements. Develops customized reports, as requested, which are used by Assoc. VP in presenting findings to numerous committees across campus, including the President, Executive Team, Board of Trustees, and Faculty Senate. Accreditation reports include but are not limited to providing audit and accreditation versions of faculty credentials rosters several times per semester for Academic Affairs’ accreditation compliance. Monitors updates to program and regional accreditation standards to ensure that data collection is appropriate.
Develops and designs data presentation dashboards, utilizing complex programming analyses, for a variety of constituents, including the Board of Trustees and Executive Administration. Creates dashboards that will complement a wide range of requests using data in different formats and from various platforms including Cognos, Tableau, and Visual SAS. Evaluates availability, accuracy and validity of institutional data sources and reporting tools to be utilized. Analyzes and transforms raw data into targeted dashboards used to make evidence-based decisions by varying levels of leadership within the College.
Designs and maintains the IRP website using the College CMS. Extracts, compiles, and formats comparative data for the website using IPEDS, US News, CSRDE and other national and regional source data. Compiles and displays benchmark data using Excel, Publisher and Adobe Pro software. Collaborates with College faculty and staff to gather feedback for assessment and improvement of the website.
Monitors campus-wide requests for Cognos reports, including new requests and changes to existing reports. Authors Cognos reports according to end-user specifications. Creates scheduled reporting solutions to automate existing business processes. Confirms that reports conform to official reporting methodologies. Existing report changes typically include building prompts, adding additional fields, modifying/adding filters, improving delivery method and more. Approximately 60 Cognos related requests are handled per year with varying degrees of complexity. Collaborates with Asst. Director of Institutional Research to incorporate additional Cognos analytical and dashboard capabilities into the College reporting strategy.
Communicates and liaises with various constituencies around campus to collect, enter and submit data for approximately 40 external surveys that represent the College to the general public such as US NEWS, Peterson’s, and the Common Data set.
Collaborates with the Associate VP on special projects as needed. Serves as a liaison for the IRPIM office within the College and to the greater community.
QualificationsBachelor’s degree in business administration, computer science, mathematics/statistics, engineering, management information science, data processing or related field and a minimum of two years’ experience with Cognos, SQL, and/or SAS within a higher education setting is required. Working knowledge of methods and techniques of data extraction, analysis, and reporting is preferred. A master’s degree in a related field may be substituted for the required experience. Experience working in a higher education environment is preferred. Candidates with an equivalent combination of experience and/or education are encouraged to apply.
Understanding of methods and techniques of data extraction, analysis and reporting. Current knowledge and understanding of the data and information that is important to an academic institution. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff and to communicate effectively. Must be able to work well under strict deadlines.
Preferred: Knowledge of specific computer software packages such as Cognos, programming languages and operating systems, including Ellucian Banner databases, SQL, Cognos, SAS, HTML, and Microsoft Office. Experience working with dashboard tools such as Tableau.
Salary range$40,000 - $60,000
Salary benefitsSalary is commensurate with education/experience which exceeds the minimum requirements.
