Institution descriptionUF Online has an opening for an experienced Data Management Analyst III, interested in applying their creativity and technical expertise to a fast-paced, rapidly expanding, fully online undergraduate enterprise. Located in the UF Online central management office, this new position will oversee UF Online’s analytical data management team and report directly to the UF Online Chief Operating Officer. Leading UF Online’s new data team, the Data Management Analyst III would bring unique expertise and experience to build and continually improve UF Online’s data hub for strategic decision-making support and analysis. Every day UF Online must meet the needs of our dynamic and growing student population, while also playing close attention to the unique data needs of campus academic advisors, faculty, staff, providing predictive analytics for capacity planning and student support service needs. Furthermore, analytics fuel our entire marketing and recruitment functions. Ultimately, we study and support positive student academic outcomes to drive persistence and graduation in a student’s chosen field of study. Lastly, all of the dynamics and activities of the UF Online program drive our budgetary frameworks, including when to make which financial investments, driven by sound revenue and cost projections. UF Online, therefore, seeks a data leader who is eager to work with a diverse team of experts across each of these major functional areas to establish a solid yet nimble data framework to support and inform program decision-making. As part of UF Online’s new operations center, the Data Management Analyst III will lead medium-to-large-sized data management projects to ensure that UF Online has the data and analytics it needs to guide its future success and growth across all functional lines. Job dutiesThe Data Management Analyst performs and oversees high level analytic and data reporting activities in support of all aspects of UF Online. Leads projects and tasks to implement UF Online data base management, the production of analytical reports, dashboards pertaining to key indicators, and interactive data visualizations to guide UF Online performance management; works with UF Online team to provide proactive, deep insights into the KPIs and metrics driving the work of UF Online on a daily/weekly/monthly basis, working with large campus datasets bringing data together to answer complex operational questions that deepen our understanding of UF Online’s operational drivers. Requires expertise in both database design and complex statistical methods and algorithms. High attention to detail and a commitment to data integrity. Prioritizing and coordinating multiple tasks so as to achieve often tight deadlines and complying in a timely manner with administrative requests and requirements. Interacts with a range of experts across the University and within the online learning field in database modeling, machine learning, event simulation, and other advanced analytic processes.

*Works across all aspects of UF Online to develop short and long-term analytic and data reporting priorities for UF Online. Builds reporting capabilities for detailed analysis. Analyzes historical operations data and market information to predict future outcomes, working at times with large and disparate data sets. Selects and applies appropriate analytical methods to answer questions and test hypotheses. Provides institution-wide support for obtaining data and information and performing analyses in response to specific needs related to UF Online students, programs and other online related matters. Identities future UF Online analytic needs and creates solutions to help meet those needs in relation to information and software systems.

*Provides relevant, timely, and accurate UF Online data, analyses and information to the UF Online Board of Directors, university administrators, the university community at large, and external stakeholders. Using software tools for word processing, spreadsheet, presentation and organizational analyses (e.g. Microsoft Office products), provides reports of analyses to decision makers. Will also be responsible for developing reporting mechanisms via dashboards. Creates presentations for UF Online senior management that provide key insights into UF Online operations and strategies. Creates and manages processes for data and analytics requests that align with UF Online priorities, and communicates these processes effectively to requestors and stakeholders. Identifies areas for improvement, incorporating best-in-class and cutting-edge techniques, and designing new approaches and methodologies. Initiates and performs research and policy analyses relevant to anticipated UF Online analytic functional planning, policy, and decision-making needs.

*Develops and maintains key partnerships with internal and external entities. Works cooperatively with various university constituencies to optimize the quality, availability, and flow of relevant data and information throughout the university regarding UF Online programs, students and trends. Collaborates with UF Online colleagues and with other UF offices on collecting, analyzing, interpreting, and assuring the quality and accuracy of data needed for reporting to the State of Florida, Board of Governors (BOG), federal agencies, and other entities. Works collaboratively with the Office of Institutional Planning and Research, UFIT, UF Enrollment Management, and the UF Budget Office, as needed. Represents UF Online to various institutional divisions as well as externally to governmental agencies, vendors, students and their parents, and/or the general public.

*Designs, establishes, and maintains an organizational structure and staffing to effectively accomplish the organization’s goals and objectives; oversees recruitment, training, supervision, and evaluation of unit staff, based upon the direction of the Associate Director of Operations, UF Online, and the UF Online Director. Develops and manages annual budgets for the Analytics function and performs periodic cost and productivity analyses. Establishes and implements short- and long-range organizational analytic services goals, objectives, strategic plans, policies, and operating procedures; monitors and evaluates programmatic and operational effectiveness, and effects changes required for improvement. Recommends and participates in the development of University policies and procedures; may serve on University planning and policy-making committees. Recommends and participates in the development of University policies and procedures pertaining to online students, programs and related procedures; may serve on University planning and policy-making committees pertaining to online programs.
QualificationsMINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
Master's degree in an appropriate area and two years of relevant experience; or a bachelor's degree in an appropriate area and four years of relevant experience.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
PhD. Or Master’s degree in Data Science, Computer Science, Information Technology, Economics, Statistics, Information Systems, Applied Math, Business Administration, or any other appropriate field. An equivalent of the same in working experience is also acceptable.

Excellent analytical ability to translate analyses into effective presentations, dashboards, and reports. Ability to use analytics to explain business drivers all the way up to the senior leadership.

Ability to build, lead, and develop a team of business and data analysts.

Experience using statistical and database software such as R, SAS, SPSS and/or SQL in addition to Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint. Familiarity or awareness of Teradata, Hadoop, and Tableau. Advanced Microsoft Excel experience such as pivot tables and charting is preferred.

Programming experience and the ability to construct and analyze queries, and merge datasets.

Knowledge of data visualization tools such as Tableau, Cognos Analytics, and Microsoft BI.

Demonstrated knowledge of higher education administrative systems and related business principles, methods and procedures is preferred.

Detail-orientated and organized with the ability to manage multiple duties and assignments. Track record of meeting deadlines and working in a fast-paced environment. Ability to operate in a team-oriented and collaborative environment, and be a strong individual contributor to group goals.

Self-motivated and self-directed to stay on track with goals and plans.

Ability to anticipate future needs of UF Online with regard to business analytics and data management and to take action with the UF Online team to ensure appropriate readiness.

Excellent communication skills in both verbal and written form to facilitate smooth interaction and efficient execution of collaborative duties that cut across UF Online functional areas, UF colleges and service organizations.

The Data Management Analyst will also report to the Chief Operating Officer and relevant stakeholders on the performance of the data analytics as well as drafting and presenting proposed strategic approaches for colleges across UF. These reports and presentation must be clear, concise, convincing, easy-to-understand, and tailored to the audience.

Maintains knowledge of structure and location of various available data sources to assist in creation of metrics and Key Performance Indicators (KPIs).
