Job dutiesThis position is the lead analyst in regard to the University’s data warehouse and reporting systems managed by IRAP. This position will serve as the technical lead in regard to developing, implementing, enhancing, and maintaining data warehouse, business intelligence, dashboard, and dynamic reporting initiatives. This position will help ensure data integrity, and help maintain and manage the current data structure. This position will integrate data from various sources to develop and maintain a coherent system of institutional knowledge and information. This position will follow through the entire development process of meeting business needs by transforming data and technical requirements into successful solutions. This position reports to the Director of Strategic Analytics and Institutional Research.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
-- Design, develop, test, implement, and maintain BI solutions through use of Blackboard Analytics, Tableau, and other reporting tools
-- Serve as the primary point of contact between IRAP and ITS (Information Technology Services) for the design, construction and support of the data warehouse
-- Create and maintain crosswalks and code descriptions as well as develop and/or consult on reporting views in the university data warehouse
-- Play a key role in the development of appropriate data views and models to improve the efficiency of data extraction
-- Implement the data warehouse and reporting solution using Microsoft technologies (i.e., T-SQL, SQL Server, SSIS, SSAS and SSRS)
-- Provide the technical frameworks and support for Blackboard Analytics customizations
-- Serve as campus technical lead for the UNC System Office Student Data Mart (SDM)
-- Manage implementation of future code releases for Student Data Mart
-- Develop and maintain processes to digest output from the Student Data Mart to be used in both error handling and reporting
-- Work closely and collaboratively with colleagues in IRAP and ITS, as well as campus faculty, staff, and administrators to identify opportunities for improved and dynamic reporting solutions
-- Integrate feedback into application enhancements to further facilitate the usability of all applications and reports
QualificationsMinimum Qualifications
-- Completed Bachelor’s degree in computer science, information systems, or related field of study
-- 5-7 years of experience in database design and administration, programming, query-writing, and report development using analytics/BI tools
-- Advanced SQL querying skills and working knowledge of data warehouse/database tools
-- Demonstrated knowledge of data warehouses and reporting tools, including schema design, ETL standard practices, and user acceptance testing
-- Experience creating multi-dimensional designs for accessing data and presenting information using analytical/BI reporting applications, such as Blackboard Analytics reporting tools, Tableau, SAS Visual Analytics
-- Strong project management skills with exceptional attention to detail and accuracy
-- Excellent communication and presentation skills
-- Exceptional interpersonal skills and the ability to interact effectively with faculty, staff, administrators, and students
-- Ability to operate with a high level of independence, routinely making critical decisions and exercising sound judgment

Preferred Qualifications
-- Completed Master’s degree in computer science, data analytics, information systems, or related field of study
-- 8-10 years of experience in database design and administration, programming and query-writing, report development using analytics/BI tools
-- Knowledge of relational and dimensional data modeling (such as star schemas, snowflakes, normalized and de-normalized models)
-- Experience performing advanced statistical analysis and predictive modeling
-- Relevant experience in a higher education institution
-- Direct experience with Blackboard Analytics and Tableau
Salary range$80,000 - $100,000
Salary benefitsSalary is commensurate with qualifications and experience.
This is a full-time, 12-month position. All permanent, full-time and three-quarter time employees (employed for the full academic year) at Appalachian State University are eligible to participate in the benefit programs listed on the HR website (including health insurance, retirement, vacation/sick leave).
