Job dutiesInstitutional Research Activities and Project Management:

- Organize and evaluate data and research projects related to short and long range goals of the University by preparing narratives, statistical reports, presenting research findings and make recommendations as requested.

- Design, organize, manage and audit ongoing comprehensive institutional research and planning projects

- Leads the development and preparation of the University's application for accreditation and is responsible for meeting the ongoing internal and external Ministry's reporting requirements.

- Collating and disseminating Capilano University information to government bodies as required, meeting agreed deadlines.

- Plan, coordinate and conduct institutional and educational planning research in order to support senior leadership's decision-making, planning, and strategic development.

- Establishes methodologies and robust processes to develop institutional performance indicators and benchmarking standards to evaluate institutional effectiveness and growth.

- Responsible for the execution and delivery of IR services ensuring that institutional research activities and special projects are focused on the strategic requirements of the Senior Leadership team.

- Ensure regular audit of data and IR reports to maintain accuracy and quality, and evaluates outputs to the standard required, as directed by the AVP, Student Success.

- Plan and oversee the process of regular program, service, and operational analysis and evaluation. Report findings and analysis to AVP, Student Success and make recommendations to Senior Leadership.

- Execute and lead complex research and analysis projects that integrate multifaceted information to deliver high level analysis.

- Participate in research projects to integrate business intelligence into the data usage of program areas.

- Conduct complex research to support the development of new programs and services or the expansion of programs and services.

- Accessing, integrating, and interpreting multiple data sources including HR, Finance, Student Services: admission, registration, graduation, Student Success, Facilities, etc.

- Routinely managing and liaising with other staff to fulfill the requirements of regular and non-regular requests for data from internal and external bodies.

People Management:

- Accountable for overall accuracy and completion of Institutional Research team's work to ensure quality assessment is provided in support of Student Success Initiatives as well as overall University programming effectiveness.

- Plan, schedule, direct and evaluate the work of Institutional Research staff members. This includes conducting regular evaluations in alignment with the Performance Management framework, providing positive and/or constructive feedback in a timely manner, also responsible for providing training to new or existing staff as needed.

- Manage and provide leadership to staff by coaching, guiding, and modeling key behaviors/strategies, encouraging dialogue and providing guidance and advice to facilitate resolutions to work issues. Mentor team members to define shared and individual goals, meet target dates and ensure alignment of team goals.

- In consultation with Human Resources, administers the collective agreement in relation to support staff including exercising hiring authority, disciplining as applicable, authorizing overtime, reviewing requests for leaves and other similar requests, and representing management where required in the grievance process.


- Develop and implement strategic and operational plans of the IR Department in consultation with AVP, Student Success.

- Prepares and administers the department's operating and capital budgets.

- Minimum of a Master's degree with focus on statistical development; in Education, Public Administration, Business or Social Sciences with an emphasis on social science research methodology and statistical/quantitative analysis.

- Minimum five years of recent and related experience in institutional analysis and planning within a higher education and Institutional Research environment

- Proven experience in providing and building IR capacity and/or leading an IR team
Salary range$80,000 - $100,000
Salary benefits$74,945 - $91,624 per year.
