Job dutiesThe Director is a primary contributor and manager of the research portfolio within ACE’s Center for Policy Research and Strategy.

The content focus of the director is on the center’s second of three major content areas: dynamic and resilient institutions, with an emphasis on equipping ACE member institutions with the knowledge and skills to better use institutional and other forms of data to inform everyday decision-making. This also means working within, and helping to grow, the data infrastructure at ACE itself. An understanding of equity-minded leadership and practice is essential for this work, as is the ability to draw upon an existing network to further the center’s data work with an emphasis on closing equity gaps.

Essential Job Duties or Tasks:

Contribute to the leadership and strategy development of the center’s work portfolio and talent. Assist the AVP in oversight of the center’s work products and work flow, and act as a liaison between the center and other ACE units.

Develop and execute on a business plan to provide products and services to ACE members that equip chief and other executives with the knowledge and tools needed to use data to inform everyday decision-making to improve student success, close equity gaps, and other institutional goals.

Bring an existing network to bear on the work, namely in the areas of institutional research, data management, organizational transformation, and innovation. Said network would include campus leadership, practitioners, researchers, policy influencers, and thought leaders.

Contribute to the design and execution of research studies and conceptual papers, and co-author/author an agreed-upon number of products each year, with an emphasis on short, actionable products (e.g., issue and action briefs, white papers, blogs) geared toward senior campus leadership.

Effectively manage multiple projects simultaneously, including the development of project timelines, work plans, deliverables, and areas of immediate and long-term action.

Contribute to the training and supervision of center staff.
Engage and activate members and other partners in support of ACE’s mission, vision, and values. Identify and work with external collaborators including campus leaders and practitioners, faculty members, other researchers, and funding partners, on jointly produced and commissioned work.

Provide strategic counsel and support to senior ACE leadership.
Represent ACE and CPRS at meetings and conferences.
QualificationsEducation/Experience/Specialized Knowledge and Competency Requirements:

Required: Advanced degree and a minimum of 10 years experience in a higher education-related setting.

Preferred:
Diverse candidates are especially encouraged to apply.
PhD preferred.

Deep appreciation and understanding of issues related to diversity, equity, and inclusion in higher education, particularly as it has to do with strategic campus decision-making.

Known thought leader in areas related to organizational transformation, innovation/ entrepreneurship, and data use in higher education.

Ability to lead and co-lead distinct areas of interest to CPRS, and to manage large, complex projects and networks.

Deep understanding of the opportunities and challenges facing campus executives, and experience interfacing and communicating with senior campus leaders.

Experience leading and contributing to a team , including the management of colleagues on discrete tasks. Ability to elevate team members and bring the best out of direct reports and colleagues.

Proven track record of working independently and producing solo authored work.

Exceptionally strong writing, communication, and project management skills, and the ability to turn disparate information and data into strong written products.
