Job dutiesThe State University of New York, College at Plattsburgh seeks an experienced Data Analyst to join a team of professionals working in a collaborative, energetic, and creative environment to enhance the college’s Strategic Enrollment Management (SEM) success. The successful candidate will have an understanding of and experience in higher-education enrollment analytics. Reporting to the Associate V.P. for SEM, this position involves work directed by SEM research questions, with goals to improve decision-making and set strategic direction. Internal, external, and trend data will be used to address goals of the SEM research agenda. The work will focus on combining analytics, interactions, and workflows in ways that support transforming insights into actions to improve student success and business efficiencies.

Responsibilities Include: Collaboration with the SEM team, and other campus constituencies, to help develop a strategic partnership with campus information technology (IT) services. Ensure that all reporting meets the highest standards of accuracy and technical efficiency, and that “single source of truth” data are consistent across all SEM reports. Research areas include recruitment marketing, student success, business-process improvements and ROI, academic costs and efficiencies, academic program performance, enrollment capacity and growth, student persistence and graduation outcomes, and financial aid optimization. Creation and presentation of findings include descriptive, diagnostic, predictive, and prescriptive reports in accessible ways for stakeholders. Use of skills in statistics and database tools in an emerging strategic effort intended to better equip the college to make bold and intelligent choices to improve enrollment health.
QualificationsRequired Qualifications: At time of employment, Master's degree in information sciences, information management, or related field, with a minimum of three years’ experience in higher education; Strong communication skills, with demonstrated ability to report findings orally and through visual formats to those with less or no expertise; Experience in identifying data and analytics for information, research-based design, and decision-making; Demonstrated skill in retrieving data from Student Data Management Systems (e.g., Banner or PeopleSoft), with knowledge of SQL; Experience with software to represent dynamic data in user-friendly visualizations; Expertise in the application of statistical techniques, including regression analysis, and the ability to learn and apply new statistical techniques; Demonstrated proficiency in statistical software (e.g., SPSS, SAS, R); Experience in team approaches to creative problem-solving.

Preferred Qualifications: Demonstrated understanding of enrollment management models, including strategies, processes, principles, best-practices, and reporting requirements; Experience working in higher-education enrollment management settings; Proficiency in programming; Experience in using Ellucian Banner; Experience in higher-education marketing; Experience in developing institutional strategy in a higher-ed setting; Proficiency with Argos software.

Salary benefitsSalary: $65,000 minimum, plus excellent benefits.
