Job Duties

Specific duties of the position include:
  • Work with financial, human resource, and student data to provide analysis and consultation on a variety of administrative matters. Apply subject matter knowledge to support institutional decisions and institutional effectiveness through research and fact-finding, combined with critical thinking and an understanding of applicable business processes, systems, and data sources.
  • Prepare briefings, reports, and presentations of analysis and research findings. Scope of responsibility includes all phases of a project, from design to data gathering, tabulation and analysis of relevant information, report drafting and editing, and presentation
  • Provide mentorship and assistance to junior colleagues on the Research and Analysis team.
  • Follow relevant policy developments at the system, state, and federal levels. Analyze policy developments to explain impacts to the institution and constituents. Perform research and analysis to facilitate university compliance with relevant policies.
  • Prepare briefing materials for university leaders that transform institutional data into compelling narratives that serve as the basis for decision making.
  • Work on topics that are increasingly complex and on matters that have significant impact on institutional operations.
  • Assist supervisor, other Research and Analysis team members, and other ISA teams with analytical and project needs.
  • Design, collect, analyze, and research institutional data according to established procedures and regulations, observing professional, ethical, legal, and policy standards for data security, privacy, and confidentiality.
  • Adhere to all Research and Analysis team processes and standard operating procedures. Identify opportunities for new processes and standard operating procedures, and assist with their development and implementation.

Job Qualifications

Required:
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to consistently produce work products that are accurate; reflect all relevant style, editorial, and brand principles; and require minimal editing or supervisory review.
  • Demonstrated track record of progressive responsibility and high-quality work performance in institutional research, assessment, data analysis, or a related role.
  • Knowledge of, and experience with, basic statistical concepts and techniques.
  • Knowledge of current issues in higher education.
  • Strong information literacy.
  • Strong organizational skills. 
  • Self-motivated with high standards for rigorous, accurate, and detailed work.
  • A collaborative and supportive teammate.
  • Ability to learn new technologies and new subject areas.
  • Desire to learn about institutional research and higher education organizations.

As NC State’s central office and authoritative source for institutional reporting and analytics, Institutional Strategy and Analysis (ISA) supports the university’s strategic decisions, planning activities, operations, evaluation efforts, and accountability by providing consistent, reliable information and analysis to university leaders, administrators, faculty and staff, students, external stakeholders, and the public.

In carrying out its mission, ISA:
  • Collects, analyzes, interprets, models, and reports information about NC State
  • Manages institutional strategic planning, including implementation planning and metrics for the university strategic plan
  • Provides leadership in governance and strategy with respect to the university’s academic and administrative data
  • Administers, analyzes, supports, and oversees institutional surveys
  • Supports, administers, and maintains applicable data structures, applications, and systems
