Job Duties
Duties and Responsibilities
- Conduct analytical studies in the areas of admissions, enrollment, degrees awarded, STEM degrees awarded, residency, graduation and retention, and student financial aid in response to internal and external data requests. Disseminate the results of the research studies to decision makers at the University of Illinois.
- Collect, coordinate, assist, or review institutional research data for annual research studies/projects: Illinois State Legislature (ISL) and Legislative Briefing Information (LBI); Illinois State ACT test-takers data by race/ethnicity from ACT Inc.; Tuition Book; University Pocket Facts published by Office for University Relations; Fall and Spring enrollment reports and five rounds of admissions data collection for Organization of Admissions and Records Officers State Universities in Illinois (OAROSUI); quartile cut-offs and scholarship eligibility of scholarship applicants.
- Prepare annual analytical reports for certain financial aid programs that include students' demographic characteristics, scholarship eligibility, enrollment, low-sending counties, graduation and retention, degrees awarded, academic performance, and award paid amount per academic year. Maintain and upkeep of PAP database.
- Prepare reports and dashboards based on existing post-secondary earnings data. Pursue new employment outcome related data sources at the state and/or national level and develop new reports and dashboards based on that data. Work with agencies to execute data sharing agreements as needed.
- Conduct peer comparison studies of enrollment, degrees awarded, student demographics, six year graduation rate, one year retention rate, race/ethnicity, student default rates, faculty and staff demographics by institution type and groups such as U.S. public four-year, U.S. public and private (for-profit and non-for-profit) four-year, doctoral universities very high research activities, Association of American Universities, Big Ten institutions, Illinois public universities, Illinois public universities excluding University of Illinois campuses, land grant public four-year, University of Illinois three campuses and their Board of Trustees peer institutions, and University of Illinois System.
- Complete various benchmarking data and survey requests by Association of American Universities Data Exchange (AAUDE), American Association of Colleges for Teacher Education (AACTE), College and University Professional Association (CUPA), Committee on Institutional Cooperation (CIC), Illinois Board of Higher Education (IBHE), Big Ten institutions, and peer institutions.
- Other duties as assigned appropriate for a Resource and Policy Analyst.
Job Qualifications
1. Bachelor's degree in business administration, management, or a field related to the position.
2. Two (2) years of professional business, financial, and/or managerial work experience.
(NOTE: A Master's Degree in an area consistent with the duties of the position may be substituted for one (1) year (12 months) of work experience.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in a discipline that includes quantitative analysis.
- One year of experience in data analytics and reporting, data source construction data collection and assessment, statistical analysis, information management, and/or institutional research.
- One year of experience writing standardized data queries.
- One year of experience in areas related to the duties described above.
- Experience in SAS, R, Python, or similar programming language.
- Familiarity with public higher education in Illinois.
- Familiarity with Ellucian Banner.
- Experience with MS Office suite.
- Experience using visual analytics tools such as Tableau.
- Professional experience in a higher education setting, preferably in institutional research.
- Ability to extract data from web-based data sources, such as the IPEDS data center, data warehouses, and relational databases. Strong oral and written communication skills.
- Knowledge and experience in information technology and management information reporting.
- Ability to work with relational databases and accessing distributed databases in a networked, client/server environment.
- Knowledge of national higher education data sources (e.g., IPEDS), websites, and related information sources.

Benefits
This is a 100% full-time Civil Service 5010 - Business/Administrative Associate position, appointed on a 12-month basis. The expected start date is as soon as possible. The budgeted salary range for the position is $70,000 to $80,000. Salary is competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience, while also considering internal equity. System Office jobs such as this one are not eligible for the Referral Program. Sponsorship for Work authorization is not available for this position.
