Job Duties

The Sr. Associate Provost, Institutional Research and Strategic Analysis leads Hofstra University’s efforts to gather, evaluate and analyze institutional data in support of the University’s planning, assessment, enrollment projections and strategic decision-making. Reporting to the Provost, the Sr. Associate Provost works closely with senior leadership as a strategic partner in establishing University-wide priorities for IRSA and to support data governance, provisioning, and analysis. This leader is responsible for the Office of Institutional Research and Strategic Analysis, ensuring accurate and timely ongoing research, responsible data stewardship, thorough institutional assessment, and supporting data informed decision-making.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
  • Manages the staff of the Office Institutional Research and Strategic Analysis. Provides leadership for the office’s work in alignment with institutional goals.
  • Provides data-informed analyses for the President, Provost, and other senior administration and constituencies to support the University’s strategic goals.
  • Supports enrollment management strategy, including projections and modeling for the Senior Vice President for Student Enrollment, Engagement, and Success to optimally leverage institutional resources.
  • Identifies informational needs of stakeholders throughout the institution.
  • Supports initiatives to improve data standards and policies, compliance, and accessibility across the institution.
  • Provides data in support of retention initiatives.
  • Works closely with the Provost and the Faculty on student learning assessment.
  • Provides timely data reporting for compliance surveys (NYSED, IPEDS, NCAA, etc.) and for external ranking surveys and college guidebooks (MSA, Fact Book, Princeton Review, College Board, etc.)
  • Supports University departments and committees with projects that involve data and analyses.
  • Coordinates survey data collection from stakeholders throughout the university.
  • Archives data and associated reports of the institution.
  • Supports disciplinary accreditations and takes a leading role in the institution’s re-accreditation by the Middle States Commission on Higher Education.
  • Partners with the information technology department on data sharing and storage policies and procedures.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Job Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in relevant discipline required.
  • PhD in a discipline of statistical focus, strongly preferred.
  • Minimum 6-8 years of experience in institutional research and assessment in higher education.
  • Five years of senior management/ supervisory experience or relevant departmental or program leadership. 
  • Five years of experience with quantitative and qualitative research methods.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and demonstrated ability to effectively communicate with all stakeholders including senior leadership.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple projects concurrently and work collaboratively with various academic and administrative partners. 
  • Experience with institutional accreditation. 
  • Excellent statistical and analytical skills with an ability to explain complex data analysis to a diverse range of constituents. 
  • Prior experience with Tableau, SQL, PowerBI and data visualization tools.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel, SPSS, SAS and other similar computer programs and query tools. 
  • Excellent judgment, discretion, accuracy, and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work well independently or as part of a team.
